looks like a rev counter / dwell meter, probably a handy bit of kit if you can work out how to use it. search the web, im sure you will find all the info to make it work.

Can't make it out with a photo as bad as that but as Trev says it measures dwell at least. Maybe RPM and volts as well?

See if it selects how many cylinders the engine has. If it only does 4 and 6 cylinders you can still use it on a V8 in the 4 cylinder mode if you double or half the reading or something.

Dwell angle is the number of degrees a set of ignition points are closed. The more dwell the better the spark. But points are very limited in how much dwell you can have before they are at the point where they are not opening correctly (and causing the spark).

If you have a points type distributor the best thing to do is put it in the bin anyway.

I have a Multimeter tool that Does Dwell as well as RPM on 4 6 and 8cyl,and it also does everything else Voltage AC/DC Continuity etc and many more, things i have forgotten?

Its was only £25 from Maplin, the exact same thing is for sale in Halfords for £50  :x so go to Maplin if you want one ;) sorry to hi jack Dodge but thought it was worth a mention.

What do you do if you have a V12? put it on 6 and double it?
