Please remember that this messageboard is first and foremost a forum for discussion of Mopar and muscle car related issues. The club exists for this reason and it is the club's responsibility to Members who pay their subscriptions, to ensure that the messageboard and Connected magazine service that requirement.

If off topic subjects were to be included in the printed Connected magazine, members would quite rightly question their inclusion. On the messageboard we try to maintain a more relaxed attitude, however there are two issues to be considered.

1. The common interest of the club is Mopar and American Muscle car related, this is why members pay their subscriptions.

2. The messageboard is very active and disk space and bandwidth are finite. In order to maintain an acceptable level of service it is necessary to try and keep postings within the theme of the club's focus. This isn't just pertinent to this thread but rather an issue that has become increasingly pressing.

Might I suggest that other suitable forums are sought out for lengthy discussions of issues not related to the focus of this messageboard? Alternatively email the member you wish to enter into such a discussion with.

(Please note this is intended for general consideration, it is not addressed specifically to Hugh).

I'm gonna copy and paste this onto every non muscle car related topic from now on then. Seems to me that if the topic is not of some of the Mods liking they drag this old chestnut out again and again but let it ride (as hugh has pointed out) when the topic is Converting Video files or Hot Air Baloons (Sorry to the authers of said Topics, just an example! )

They they Bananarama! off with some line about not making a fuss about it, keep quiet from now on, itwould be greatly appreciated.

Its disappointing that you think that way Andy. For the short amount of time you managed to be a moderator, did you really get that impression?

I can tell you now, for the record, we (moderators) do NOT make decisions on what is, or is not acceptable on the basis of our own opinions and we try very hard to avoid making unilateral decisions when it comes to moderating what could be seen by the impartial observer, as something that is not what the club and the majority of its members want. We work for the board, we are not, 'the board'.

Well, I think it's great that so many of us can turn a blind eye to what attrocities are going on around them in the world, whether committed to humans or animals, and there is always this great little place where you can come to get away from it all, if it gets too stressful, and chat about crankshafts or dipsticks - rather than do something about it. Hopefully when you poke your head back out into the real world again, it will all be fine and dandy.

No wonder the world is in the state it's in with so many people with their heads buried in the sand. Tell you what, I wouldn't mind a refund of my subs as this place has just become considerably boring and obnoxious...and you can't hide the fact that your remark was aimed at me Ivor.

And thanks to my photography, muscle cars, and this MB, I was able to raise a considerable amount for St Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital this year. So whether you like it or not, this MB has had an indirect effect on the lives of some British Wildlife casualties. If you really didn't want to help, or feel sick at the thought of having contibuted to an animal charity, then let me know and I will send you your money back.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Dave, the whole point in a hobby IS to get away from the hassles in life and relax. It doesn't mean that we can't pursue worthwhile causes as well but that isn't what the club is set up for, ergo neither is the club messageboard.

Hey Clivey, yes I did get that impression. Thats why I came off, I'd had enough. The secret little sub forum for MODs only where you all sit and gas about what thread to pull or leave was getting tedious too. I still think we are far to heavly moderated. And I know I'm in the minority in thinking this. I always seemed to be on the side of the guy who was getting a whipping in the private lounge/MOD forum and heavly out numbered.

On this thread JonB made a comment, acting as a MOD which was fine and I'm sure was taken on-board. It was brief, to the point and never made a fuss. Basicly saying look guys lets not get over excited here. Which to be honest I dont think anyone was. I sure was not anyway, its just banter.

What I dont understand is when Martin comes wading in guns blazing waving the rules about saying that this is a Muscle Car Club, what are you doing talking about a non-Muscle Car Topic? Its wasting bandwidth etc etc. It was a geniune Thread that never broke any rules and was entertaining. There's plenty of drivel getting posted here every week that does not get the rules waved at it and getting accused of being a drain on the Bandwidth. There was not even any pictures, which I'm sure take up much more space than a few lines of text.

I'm not directing this at any actual person. Clivey, you've been more than helpfull with me in the past and I appreciate it. Martin too, when I had an issue he was on it within minutes. I'm not trying to make this personal, I think you guys are great!

We have upgraded our hosting as far as we can and we are already very close to it's limit. In addition users are quick to raise the issue when the messageboard is unresponsive and slow to load.

i understand where the mods are coming from, my old account had 6000+ posts (and was a mod myself for a while) so i was well aware of how the forum worked. so long as any debate is kept civil and within forum guidelines, there should be no need to moderate or even request a topic is kept subdued,

the problems arise when those who cannot accept other peoples views throw the toys out, as i've said before, that will never stop, however, their input can easily and quickly be moderated to allow those who wish to, to iscuss each others views in a civilised manner, as we were doing

i didn't take it personally (been here before!).

re bandwidth, forums (as text only) use very little bandwidth, especially if people host their own photo's and link them in with bb code rather than post them to the forum, for eg, i reckon this thread with no photo's could run for years and not use the same as a download intensive thread such as mma pets (no offence to the authors) might use if one person alone read every page and image.

Unfortunately Hugh, forums make intensive requests on the server. If image are not present the bandwidth required will be less but the requests that the server has to return are not. This is why the forum peaks when it's busy and members have to wait for a connection. The lengthier a thread, the more calls to the server and the database.
