8 3/4 pumpkin bolts and half shaft nuts and seal

Post by GranSport »

Hi guys,
Just putting the axle back together after 6-7 years. Do the nuts holding pumpkin and half shafts have spring washers and/or flat washers? Does not seem to be anything in my box of bits.

Cheers

I just use flat washers, I don't think they fitted any washers at all originally.

Crown wheel backlash

Post by GranSport »

Thanks Blue,
Moving on to the Pumpkin- have set crown wheel backlash at 8 thou for a used pinion set. Is this about right?

8 thou is good to go, checked at the tightest spot

split the crown wheel into at least 4 sections and check each to find tightest, set 8 thou from there.

If there's a big difference across crown wheel pull it off the carrier and check faces
