
Weather beaten '68 Charger 4-speed Hurst

Thank you for the support guys. Today was an absolute blast. 5.30am start and the Dodge really behaved itself. 50-55mph cruising all the way down and the temp never budged from 80 degrees C and 80psi oil pressure until temp went up (90 OC) in the usual rushmoor arena traffic.
Got to put several faces to forum names and it was great to meet you all (and increase the line of 'rare' '68 Chargers....
)
The day was rain filled and the journey home tested the wipers out but it was just epic. Was surprised how good the 4-spd 'box selected. Brakes need improvement (master cylinder replacement required asap) but otherwise chuffed. She's not that loud either considering no carpets or headliner or door rubbers....

just caught up with this thread after seeing your car today, loved it. Didn't realise it had so much new metal in it! Well done for getting it there. I only got my Datsun van MOTd yesterday, (first MOT since 2003) but that only needed me to do like 2 hours work on it after digging it out of my barn so I was lucky.
Good to see the Dat on the road Will - I remember when we first met @ RTTS when you had a V8 datty Viole(n)t or something with faux charger grille?
Yeah my 68 did need a lot of rear end fabrication but now it's straight and I'm concentrating on keeping it looking weathered but with lots of wax protection. Gotta put all trim back on and order my carpets etc too. And sort the dash gauges out........

I had a photo of your car as my wallpaper for a while Johnny when it had those torque thrusts on so I was really pleased to see it at the show yesterday.
After seeing yours I'm deffo gonna get mine on the road as it is and use it as much as poss before sorting the body work. I'll have to make the dodgy paint job look weathered first though!

Cheers Matt, glad to know I'm influencing someone. The new steelies should be getting fitted soon, for that Moonshine chic. I've got 4" offset 15x8s for the rear and 15x7s for the front.
I'm hoping to get some more miles under the Charger's belt this wknd, but the rain is showing some windscreen leaks. New seals too!

Despite cack weather (When the rain really tipped down the bottom corners of the windscreen seem to leak so I might need to remove that trim and get some mastic out) I took out the Charger for some local trips.
Transmission is a bit whiney, but it selects really silky and precise. The back axle is a bit whiney but then again she is 41 years old. I drove down to the Wheels Day between 50 and 55 (used the TomTom as a speedo) and it didn't miss a beat but one thing I do need to get to the bottom of is when it's up to working temp and I shut off the engine, antifreeze pours out of the overflow in the alloy rad. This happened several times and I had to top it up before coming home. I think I need to double check I have the correct rad cap fitted? Is Kerry (Originals) on this forum who I bought the Pro Cool rad off? My cap is just an original type one. Can anyone shed advice?
Every thing else is tops. It even holds the road ok with those shocks and new R/T leafs/torsion bars. So far the Dodge has done about 300 miles. No oil loss!
