Looks great Gringo, well done.

Not sure if you have one fitted but everyone who's fitted a mini starter says they fire up a motor much easier. Smaller and lighter and less drain on the battery.

.
got one on minedont understand why everyone hasent got them they are fantastic

Well...

the motor runs sweet. No oil leaks so far. Starts on the button every time, since I changed the battery for one with more oomph. Still can't drive it though...

'cos the bleeding right hand header won't seal. Gasket keeps leaking (multi-layer ali job), and there's coolant leaking. I can't tell if the coolant is leaking out the header bolts or from a core plug. It's driving me nuts. I just want someone to come along and fix it now. My back is killing me from leaning over the engine bay, taking the header off for the umpteenth time. Gonna spit me dummy... :P

Hey Gringo.
Have you tried taking the header off and using a flat surface with sand paper glued to it and re-face the header gasket face.
I have seen that some header gasket faces are not flat from manufacture.
I like the look of your motor and you should be happy with a job well done

Thanks Anton,

that was next on my list. I think I'm going to have to replace the header anyway. Something tells me it's not right. Back to stripping it off again tomorrow...

Cheers Glen. I might go for that yet, but Slick did offer me some as new headers. Going to compare price... :?

Header is shot. There's not enough of the original lip to reface. It'll be new headers then...

Still, the coolant leak ain't so bad. Just a leaky core plug. Easily (cheaply) sorted... :thumbright:

Got some new Hedman hedders in the week. Got them fitted up today after quite a bit of messing around. I hate hedders! :P
Anyway, it's BACK ON THE ROAD!!! :thumbright: :thumbright: :thumbright:

It's not perfect yet. It's pinking a little, and I don't think the secondaries are opening on the carb, one exhaust needs modifying as it's knocking, but it drives well, there's no leaks (yet), stays cool, and has good oil pressure. Got some wiring to finish as well. But I'm happy... :D

With a bit of luck, I might even make Brooklands... :thumbright:

Gringo, fit a cable tie to the secondary rod. if they are opening, the cable tie will be pushed vertically down the rod. Easy to check, worked for me.
