Can someone measure RT hood badge placement on Challenger??

Post by MrNorm »

...please!!!

I need to know where the badges are on RT hoods - I don't have the holes in my RT hood.
There are actually two different sets of holes that the badges attach to I believe, 2 holes for most badges including 340FOURBARREL (which is what I have) and 3 holes for some other application, I think probably for the 440 six pack I show here.

Either way I need to know the 'vertical' placement especially. Easiest way to get that would be to measure where the black arrows are on my pic - side of hood to centreline of badge. This is a curve so probably easiest way to be accurate is use piece of paper or something, mark it, then lay it flat and measure. If you have the fore/aft measurement as well that would be magic, although I might have that already (but good to check)

I would really appreciate it, thanks very much in advance :thumbright:

If you lay your tape down on the surface as your diagram suggests it is 5.5 inches from the very edge of the hood to the center line of the emblem Gavin.

Yes, I am practically ready to start the engine...........
Well actually just one of those 'small jobs' that I fit in when the bigger ones are waiting for something to happen :D

Thanks Dave, appreciate the info!! :thumbright:

Gavin, I measured the right hand side holes as in your pic. Unfortunately I couldn't check whether the left side holes are exactly the same. The badge on the right is a little loose so I could see the pins but the left side badge is tight to the bonnet, I'd need to check underneath. Unfortunately my bonnet currently doesn't have any hinges under it, it's just laid on the car and I didn't have anybody to help me lift it off today.

Anyway, I laid a sheet of paper on the bonnet to follow the curve and marked up the edge of the bonnet and the hole positions. When the paper was laid flat the measurements were as follows.

Distance of rear hole to edge of bonnet: 136mm
Distance of front hole to edge of bonnet: 136mm

When measuring a straight line through both holes the distance to the point in line at the back of the bonnet (below windscreen) was 490mm for the rear hole and 608mm for the front hole.

Don't forget that mine are "340 Four Barrel badges", I have no idea if these would differ to yours.

I tried to be as accurate as I could but without removing the badges it wasn't very easy. If these don't sound right, next time I have the bonnet off I'll remove the badges and double check if you need me to. Might not be for another week or two though.

Isn't that what the French use to measure things?

Fantastic Martin, exactly the info I needed. Mine are the same badges so measurements will be exactly the same. Thanks a lot for taking the time to measure for me, that correlates to Daves info too, plus gives me fore/aft as well :thumbright:

Badges here I come!! (Just got to decide whether to stick em on with emblem tape or do something else more like the original clips....not a big decision in the scheme of things :D )

Yeah, madness isnt it  Why would anyone choose to measure 136mm rather than 5.354 or 5-45/128" :)

Gav, when you say "start" the engine, I presume you mean start building and not turning the key in the ignition...... ;)

Sticky tape if you don't have the holes Gavin. It would be a nightmare getting all the holes in the right place.

Well I did pick up some tape the other day....but I need to see how easy it would be to cut it to neatly follow the profile of the badges since they do have quite a complicated profile. Also the badges have the two locating pins on them, so all said and done, with the measurements I now have, I don't think drilling the holes should be any bigger issue than removing the pins really??
However, since it is a fibreglass hood, and I don't have the original push-in clips, I'd have to find another way to secure it if I used the pins anyway. Hadn't thought about it much yet but maybe siliconeing the pins for example would work well
