It runs yes. But how well would it run with a better intake on it?.......

If you want looks over function I would say go for it. It will indeed run well enough to get around.
If you want it to drive better and run faster get yourself a decent modern single plane intake. ;)
You may recall we did try a single plane on ours for the dyno session and it produced similar, if slightly better results, but as you know we chose to keep the cross-ram for its 'originality' & looks, and are prepared to put up with whatever short-comings it may have on the street or the track. Going by what we had read and were told before we bought the car, you'd have thought it would be as unuseable on the street as Jem's single carb rat roaster is likely to be, but we've had no problems to date and coped well with the 'tunnel run', driving round town at a max of 40mph for 3hrs.
Sure, a modern single plane may perk it up at lower revs but we're happy to stick with looks over function :thumbright:

But yours is dual carb yes?
I think there is a big difference between a dual carb cross ram and a single carb version. Despite them being the same bottom half. I just can't see a single carb version working well at all.

Plus I was not refering to peak power. Rather how it will drive at lower rpms if it is a street car (which I am still not clear if Jem's is or not).

I appreciate that this goes against the grain for the guys that are seeking out and out speed and ETs but that's definitely not the case with me.

Don't get me wrong - I love hooning down the drag strip and getting that seat of the pants adrenaline rush as much as the next guy. But, as big as the thrill is, it only lasts for a few seconds. The real buzz for me is locating old nostalgia pieces. My mission with the Ratster is to try and replicate a barn find hick-town race car that may have been put together some 40 odd years ago.

Yeah sure I've made some concession's (shiny motor) but once the faded and distressed lettering has been done I think it'll look the part.

As far as the ST14 is concerned, I've just got to have it on the motor. It's an EXTREMELY rare piece and I just love the look of it. Yep, I know it's going to be a struggle to set up but I think it'll be well worth it! If it loses me speed and ETs on the track then so be it! Blasphemy to you race guys I know but the aesthetics mean more to me. However, once I've got the Edelbrock heads on and a slightly more aggresive cam and can run a mid 11 buy the end of it, I'll be a very, very happy man that has got the best of both worlds.

Regarding the Rat Roaster intake, I think it was a hemi only piece!

It's a street car Dave that I'll spend a few weekends having fun with down the drag strip :thumbright:
