3 point belt in hardtop

Post by Arran »

I,m fitting 3 point belts in my 68 dart hardtop but there are no captivated nuts in the holes where the upper point would mount. I have plates to go in the holes but there doesn't appear to be any way to get them in. I've poked around with wire but there is no gap between the skins large enough to fit the plate through.
I could cut open the mount point, peel it back and re-weld it but is there any other way? and did other peoples 68 cars come with the plates factory fitted?

Arran, My 69 Dart has a provision for a 3 point belt which is situated about an inch forward of the coat hook.I have fitted 3 point belts but the car cannot have been supplied new with them as the headliner had no sign of any holes left by an earlier fitment but fortunately the threads were already there. Not sure of the best way forward for you though.

Well I think that is a coat hook about an inch back from that hole on the picture and there aint nothing behind that hole but fresh air so I think my car was stiffed at the factory
Anyway, I suppose I,ll have to cut and shut
