Charger prop

Post by sidewaysjas »

Hi guys, need some adviice with this one. I have a '69 Charger with 318 and 3 spd manual. I have had an intermitant oil leak on the rear of the trans for ages, have changed rear seal, but noticed the gearbox output shaft is fully splined but the prop yoke appears to have a gap in the splines on the inside of the yoke tube. Consequently if the car comes to a standstill with this gap at the bottom the gearbox oil runs out everywhere. I assume I have the wrong prop for the car? Anyone shed any light?

Many thanx

The slip yoke should have a plug in the end so oil can only leak at the seal.

Thanks for that, seems obvious now you have mentioned it, do you know anywhere in the UK where I might get the plug.

No, but you could make one using a piece of steel or alluminium and use silicon to seal it.
