Some updates from the weekend.

I was having some overheating problems with the trans so fitted a better cooler unit. This has worked as the trans now runs at 160F. :thumbright:

The temp modification I made to the timing stop in the MSD dizzy, in order to suss out the size I needed, was starting to fall apart so I had to make a new permanent bush of the correct diameter.
I found some unused nylon fuel bowl screw washers that were just about the right size. So I stacked two together and nipped them up tight.

I am using one light silver and one heavy silver spring.

This resulted in 18 degrees initial and 36 total. Half of it is in by 1500rpm and the rest by 3000rpm. That will do for now. ;)

I also fitted a 6.5 inch power valve, went up one jet size on the center carb to #65s, and increased the idle mixture a bit.

The car now idles stronger but is a bit too rich (12.4:1) until 3500rpm. So I think I need to go down one jet size again and open up the outer carb jets a touch more.

I wish I had been able to figure out a way to fit throttle position sensors on the carbs because knowing when they open would make things easier.

With all that university technology available to you Dave I would have thought you would have sorted that in no time.

Pencil cam under the bonnet pointing at the carbs with a 12 volt inspection light so the camera can see what's going on, bnc lead running in through the window with a monitor sitting on the passenger seat and go for a blast! ;)

I'll get me coat.
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

Actually. You have me thinking there.

A microswitch and a light would probably do in a pinch......:-k

Actually that is pretty much my future plan for checking out a few things under the hood. Cheapo webcam (I have one anyway but £10 should get one) to a laptop (already have one) on front seat via USB. Cost - next to nothing.
Might not even need a light.

Blimey!

They don't say I'm good for nothing! ;)

Luckily, on the Barracuda I'll be able to see the carbs through the windscreen :D

Maybe I was going slightly uphill on the lower rpms and downhill on the higher rpms?

I will have to do more tests and do them along the same stretch of road. Not easy with all the traffic around here. :(

Idle in gear (and out in traffic) vacuum sometimes goes down from 8" to 7" too. That 6.5 inch power valve might be too close a rating?

Yeah I will be there for sure now the trans is behaving. But 250 miles is a long way to go and i will be much happier if I can get the carbs tuned as good as possible before then. That way i can just drive it and chill out and if it does not run the numbers I will not care as long as everything is working as it should.

This could be the last time I drive this car up the strip. So i want it to go well.

Seriously thinking of jacking the whole hobby in. Or maybe just sell the Chally.
It depends on how much fun I have in the next few weeks. Plus I could REALLY do with the money from selling the car. I have been in a very tight financial spot since I had to have all that time off work. I am getting sick of the stress and worry. I don't need it.

It does seem daft after finally getting the car where I want it. All that hard work etc.

But I am tired.
