Rear seats in a pick-up- Legality, Safety, etc?

Post by db »

Now another McQueen is arriving imminently, we're running out of seating in the Truk.
4-across the bench seat is a squeeze but we all have a seatbelt, i haven't checked the legality of that though, to be honest

My next thought is to fit a bench seat or a pair of rear- facing seats in the pick-up bed.
I'd securely fix them through to the chassis, have 3-pt belts and a roll-over bar, possibly even a bit of tarp for shelter if they're good ;)

Any thoughts?

My concern would be that you would have no control on passengers when outside the cab.
What is to stop them from undoing their seat belts, playing around, etc.
Adults should understand the risks, but you can not expect kids to really understand the consequences

A soft top Landrover can have seats in the back,no more than a pickup if it's a truck cab version. Side facing seats don't require s/belts either as they're considered dangerous in that position. Forward facing seats of course would have to be properly belted.
