PART 1 1968 DODGE CHARGER
I purchased my charger in August 1994. At the time I owned a triple black 1970 383ci charger that I ended up selling to a guy from Dijon in France. As you can see from the list above the engine has had a few modifications. The original colour was yellow with a black vinyl roof, when I got it, it had 90% of its original paint and was in reasonably good condition. Around 1999 I was getting a bit fed up with the car so I decided to change the colour rather than change the car. I have a 1968 sales brochure with all the colours on the back of it. As I wanted to keep it an original colour I choose from that, I eventually decided on Metallic Bronze (MM1). As luck would have it my son was working in a paint refinishers so I phoned ICI in America and got the formulation so my son made the paint to that, I stripped the car down as much as I could, I took front and rear bumpers, four over riders and gas cap to Hockley Enterprises Southend on Sea for rechroming (?230). While they where being done I did the few minor body repairs that needed doing and primed the whole car, that took about a week, then it was off to a friends garage for him to put on the top coat and lacquer in his oven, The following week it was all go to put it back together including a new vinyl roof that was made from scratch, start to Finnish was under three weeks, that?s what happens when you?re out of work. I have replaced the power steering box, all the front end joints and bushes, front and rear shocks, exhaust twice, took off the 14inch magnum 500s and put on 15inch magnum 500s with 235 60 15 on the front and 275 60 15 on the rear. I have taken out the dash and refaced the gauges with them stick on things and yes they do make the gauges look like new, I also painted the facia panel satin black and did the outline with a silver paint pen. The valve stem oil seals needed doing so I pulled off the heads and did them, at the same time I did the core plugs in the heads while they where off and did a general tidy up under the bonnet at the same time.
