Going to do a rolling road session with a selection of jets to get it spot on. Tell me, is rust heavier than metal???

Good to here Gringo , well done.

Has the timing set got three keyways on the crank gear?

4 teeth - you were lucky not have valve to piston contact.

Hope all is well.

Ive fitted those Summit gear sets & in you're defence i can see how the mistake was made as the instruction sheet does'nt state #1 & #6 piston to be @ TDC when joining the dots (normal precedure) , there's two '0' stampings followed by two 'A' & two 'R' stampings on the crank gear along with three different positions for it to be fitted , if #1 piston were @ TDC there would be no confusion , that cam must of been around 15*/20* retarded  , have the headers melted? :D , you did well to get the car to brooklands. :thumbright:

Hey Gringo , should of gone the other way & advanced the cam , you'd of blown ole Jims doors off up to the 60ft mark.

Nice timing set all the same.

 more like fryed his tyres off the rims  remember gringos motor running when i was looking at it at the nats and up to 3000rpm you wouldnt think cam timing was out at all,in fact ran quite nice, reckon ole gringo should be heading for 13 something on the strip now :thumbright:
keep it mopar !

What it SHOULD do, and what it DOES do are two different things. By my calculations it SHOULD do mid 13's. What it WILL do is probably mid 15's...

Yeah I know. Spent most of my time trying to get it to run cool. I was more concerned about burnt valves when I found out. The only saving grace was that I never did give it any welly. Just cruised everywhere trying to keep it cool...

Drove it back from Kiwi's today with no problems. It goes... like stink. Easily revs through to 6k. Pulls like a train through the mid-range. Lays 11's easily. A bit of fine tuning (jets and ignition timing), and we're there, ready for the Hot Rod Drags. \:D/ :woot: :woohoo:

Got to get the Mr Gasket shifter installed before then, as I can't hold gears at the moment. Need to look at the brakes as well. More power=better brakes.

Cobblers... Back to the beginning. The vacuum secondaries ain't opening. This is doing my bleeding head in. I think Kiwi's vacuum gauge was showing low vacuum at idle, but we put that down to the cam. Now I'm thinking the lifter preload still isn't right...

Manifold vac won't have any effect on the vac secs function , will be either spring pressure , vac diaphram or blockage to vac air ways..................

Did you check lifter preload when you built the motor? , around .020/.060 is fine , too much will bottom out the lifter plunger & hang the valve open , if the heads were skimmed or a valve job done then lifter preload will change , you really need to check with a dial gauge or similar , if the springs are weak the lifters will pump up & hang the valves open also , are you using adjustable rockers non adjustable?

Some aftermarket lifters sit the PR cup higher.

Didn't know that about manifold vacuum. I'll set to work on the carb... again... :thumbright:

I thought I'd measured lifter preload correctly, and yes it was falling just under 0.060". ;)
