green bearings

Do you keep the oil seals in, after fitting green bearings?. They are sealed units maintenance free. I have heard no, but not sure. :help:

I would fit the inner oil seals, I've had Green bearings leak oil without them.

Green bearings are something I wouldn't even consider fitting,they are not designed to take any side thrust.OK for straight line racing but not good for our twisty roads and roundabouts.I'd expect no more than 20K miles max out of them.

Won't hurt to keep the seals in there , although i've had no problem with taking them out , the green bearings have an O ring seal , the axle end on mine have been damaged @ some point but the 0 ring still seals ok.

No problems with green bearings for me , car gets hammered & so far so good.

As MickRR has already pointed out , the thrust plate should be removed from centre section.

I've used green bearings with and without the seals, seems to make no difference. If you you don't take the centre pin out of the diff, you might have to grind the ends of the shafts to stop them bottoming out. Green bearings are just Ford bearings for street use. All modern cars/vans use sealed non adjustable non tapered bearings, they will last if fitted correctly.

All bearings on modern cars have sealed roller bearings as opposed to the old taper roller set up, don't adjust or grease :roll: What is this side load Bananarama! about????

Leave your old seals in end of :thumbright:

I thought that vehicles that had rollers standard also had a method of retaining the axle independently? Like c-clips or something?

Regardless, I believe latil is correct - they won't take the side load of a taper roller, so will at best wear out quicker.
Having said that there are many people who use them and have not had problems, but that doesn't disprove the theory. But probably does mean that in most cases you will be fine.

Having said that, why WOULD you use them? Only reasons I know are to avoid adjusting the tapered (really now, how difficult is that?), or possibly to ensure equal wheel spacing (that would be useful I agree).
