Bet it wasn't. Just quieter due to it being a) old and b) a higher gear.
My 3.91 whined due to pinion bearing breaking up
My new 3.55 sounds like the 3.91s did, but all bearing are new
The noise was probably normal and it just happened that the bearing was faulty.

Thanks Dave, I meant 'Black art' in the humerous sense that in the various searches I came across experienced diff builders who had met with noisey diffs which they couldnt explain. In one example today, two yanks said that the one deciding factor had been that the gear set came from Motive Gear, as do mime. Conspiracy, bad workmanship or bad asemmbly?

Either way thanks for joining the discussion.

Can I Bananarama! up to and at Shakey at the weekend then :D

will just add as i said before my gears are motive, but having done a few more miles since i last posted i did notice today they seemed quieter, just a bit of noise on the over run below 50mph, above that even on the over run i get nothing, have give it proper hammer down the dual track and all seems fine, change of oil and off to the strip :thumbright:
keep it mopar !
