What's Your Daily Driver

My current daily and workhorse is an 05 Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel. I tend to run these for six months then sell them for a small profit and buy another.





I do quite a lot of towing and find the American trucks are second to none. The current Ram does 23mpg on a run towing a large loaded car trailer

That brings back memory's. I used to own a real nice C F called Odessa, was featured in 1979 custom car mag, was real cool, but drive it like a nun, I could only get 18mpg and that was 25yrs ago

that's about 5mpg more than I get from mine

I remember Odessa,it was white with murals of galleons/ships of some sort was it not?????Big CC fan back in those days....I just read it in W.H.Smiths in 10 mins these days...

That's the one Rich, it was based on the battle of Odessa. Denise and me had some fun in that van, it doesn't seem like 25yrs ago. I still have photo's of it and the CC mag. I swapped it to my uncle for a mustang grande, a pushbike and 50quid

I picked this up last weekend.



That's my accommodation sorted for next years Nats. Its a bit ratty on the outside but the inside is quite tidy, just needs a V6 or a small V8 in it .

Had 2 of those years ago, put a Rover 3500V8 in one of them, couldn't believe what a simple job it was, 5 days from start to driving it!!!
PS, still got some one piece up and over rear door hinges somewhere!

I put a Rover 3500 auto in one as well, went great but the back axle gearing was a bit low. Easy engine swap, just need to fabricate a larger engine cover.

That's good to hear, did you need to cut the bulkhead about at all?

The axle ratio's in these is ridiculous, according to the Haynes manual they range from 4.8:1 to 5.4:1. Mine has 5.2:1 gears in it. I'll be changing the back axle too I think.

Don't remember cutting the bulkhead, l was quite lucky when l did mine, l bought an mot failure 3500V8 off a friends dad, had everything that way!!! I even grafted in the front valance from the Rover to the CF, looked quite good that!

I left the bulkhead alone, and just cut away a bit of the floor, and then cut and widened the engine cover. Basically I lifted the van body off the K frame , removed the 2.3 oil throwing device and gearbox, and then lowered the whole 3.5 and auto box in place, then droped the van body back and saw where it touched, and cut away.
Had a prop made from the two I got, bit of welding for engine and gearbox mounts, exhaust system, and the rest was connecting things up.
Weekend job mostly, but mount the centre prop bearing low enough or it will tear itself to bits.
