More modern EFI engine into an old Mopar?
I would like to modernise my Fury engine for easy cold running and fuel efficiency . One option is to fit injectors to the existing mid 70s 360 engine, but the other option is changing the whole engine and wondered what your thoughts would be on installing a V8 engine from a later (EFI) vehicle. Latil suggested a Jeep engine, if so what model / years, and would it work with my existing trans or are the crank/bellhousing patterns different?
And what other problems might I come up against? Rigging up high pressure fuel system and wiring up the injection system is something I am OK with, but was wondering if the engine mounts are the same, and if the exhaust manifolds would point in the right direction and stuff like that.
I've actually got a Nissan V8 engine and trans sat here doing nothing..... but I'd rather keep it mopar under the hood.

I'm trying to remember the finer points of the car driven from Norway,towing a caravan, to the Euronats a couple of years back. I know it had a 360 magnum with f/i and a more modern trans,all dressed up to look factory stock. The whole install is a work of art,and deception to the average punter.

It is something that has been done many times in the US. Usually with "crate" engines but also sometimes with engines from Dodge Trucks.
You can even buy the new "Hemi" as a crate engine but obviously they are not cheap.
My freind Eddie Nasser was half way through building a "Mega Squirt" EFI 500 inch (400) engine before we decided to do this road trip. Injectors, sensors and throttle body etc are all stock off the shelf items. He will be selling that once (or if) he completes it next year.

He is an Australian hot rodder who injects all his projects using bits he finds useful from other cars. not sure if his books are in print at the mo. but he'll send you a copy if you pay
full engine swap is probably easiest but the ECU is tied into the alarm and immobilizer so you need the engine and all electrics associated with it right back to the tank. The tank venting solenoids and a geet big chunk of the stuff behind the dash along with the keys and some of the drive by wire stuff
unless you go mega squirt or Kalmaker and delco unit both of which can be made to work with OEM breakers yard bits from modern ish cars.
i looked (dreamed about) megasquirt and spark with Jenvey 48 mm DCOE style injection for my six it would have been great but i'd need to win the lottery first.
i also toyed with the idea of two 2 litre VW KE jetronic setups.
basic fuel distributor, the mass of fuel that is injected per cycle is dictated by the inlet vacuum impact on a diaphragm...nice and simple
1 for the front 3 one for the back....easy to do in theory but the cost of this stuff has rocketed because BOSCH will only recondition if you send in a core...they make little of it new anymore.
but as usual this was all thought and no action

think mopar do a plug in harness now or someone does , to drop a late model Fi 360 truck motor & od trans , the complete set up air con , pas , serpinetine belt the lot ! into a Ebody remember readingin a mopar mag years ago , will have to have a lookie
, there was a orange 70 charger came over to the nats one year from germany had the same set up , looked factory 


Thanks for the responses. If sticking with my 360 I was thinking (being on a budget) of using Range Rover V8 injection stuff, due to it being extremely available. Megasquirt for the ECU (so that I can do away with the airflowmeter) and keep my carburettor as throttle. Then i can put the original air cleaner on and it would look stock-ish.
not sure if later Buick V8s still had a family link to to old rover v8 but if so the injectors might be sized better than those for a 3.5 litre
i don't know enough about injectors
but duty cycle and low or high impedance are both important things
the former you don't want the injector being on all the time
the latter get it the wrong way round and you burn out the circuits used to drive the injectors. low imp injectors on an ecu for high is not good
