Dunc. In simple terms the messgae board has moved to a new server so your PC has to "learn" this.

It is a bit like my wife moving my stuff when I am not looking and then I can't find it.

… like 1 of your mates moving house but they ain’t told you, their name is still the same but you have to learn their new address, switching off/on your router (broadband device) should sort it :thumbright:

alright

DNS is a service that translates something like 192.16.18.34 to be www.moparuk.com

the server is now possibly 82.147.22.2

so all the DNS servers in the world need to learn this

it takes 24-72 hours for this to happen

your router may have a basic DNS table in it, it will link the name www.moparuk.com to the old number not the new unless it gets a specific direction to reset.

trouble is you have no control over your ISP's DNS servers...and they will have a number that they own and some that they use at their main internet connection suppliers

if they have it wrong on one, half the time you get access and half the time you don't

when you upload pictures you speak a slightly different language you communicate through a different method and connect to a different port

a server could have its entry correct for 1 type of connection and wrong for another.

what it comes down to is connectivity to a specific server via a URL is dictated by many things on the net that mere mortals have no control over.

in theory slapping the IP address in instead gets you round this but it only works if the host lets you or you know the correct /path to add on the end

Alternatively, go to the meter cupboard and pull down the big switch that says 'on'. Have a coffee and then Bananarama! back up again. Then spend the rest of the night resetting all the clocks in the house, but at least the router is sorted :thumbright:

well, that maybe so chap, but if the boot were on the other foot and my Charger trans was in bits I wouldn’t know where the Bananarama to start with that either :D ;) :thumbright:

NO, I don't think so as the "gateway" will remain consistent (I think he is alluding to a corporate Network) ;)

I await to be corrected .....

that was the best thing about this event

I PMd Ivor and TyreFryer to ask them to delay letting Dunc back, but sadly they did not share my point of View :( :D
