Crank front oil slinger

Crank front oil slinger
Neither my 318 or the 360 appear to have a crankshaft oil slinger fitted. Was this only fitted to 340 motors originally? I note that Mopar performance stock one for all small blocks
See my thread about what they do if fitted wrong !!
HemiPerformance in Australia say they throw away the oil slinger for the straight sixes, there is enough chain lube from the oil dripping down onto it from above. If the oil seal is fitted properly then you will probably be OK, but opinion is divided.
It was fitted when new, there must be a reason, no manufacturer spends money on bits that it doesnt need.
I would suggest worst case if you leave it out will be a leak from the front seal, just call it rust proofing for the K frame.

Apparently they were fitted by the factory to bigblocks as well, although I've never found one on any motor I've ever stripped. I think they are a good idea though, so I got a couple from Mancini, one for me "cooking" motor and another for the "better" one. There is a chain tensioner available now for small blocks, now that's an even better idea!

Blue, if I could get one tomorrow i would, but i need to finish this motor. I note that there are only 3 retaining bolt holes (see my related threads on 'does it need 3 or 4 bolts on the cam plate?')
The timimg chain has no apparrent wear (its a comp cams double chain ( despite the previous builder using no slinger and having the drip rail in completely the wrong place!
