MSD ignition help and other problems!

Post by Anonymous »

Well I have been working on the car as much a I can and have come up with a few small things I am unsure of again.
The wiring on the car has been cut back under the hood, mostly all the original bulkhead connectors are fine.
I am a little stuck with a wire from the msd 6al, I have followed the wiring diagram and connected the correct wires to the coil and the Mopar dizzy.
The wire I am unsure about is the smaller of the 2 red wires, do I just connect that to an ignition wire?
I have connected the electric fuel pump to the ignition, would you recommend putting an on/off switch instead?
Same with the electric fan?
I managed to get the engine to turn over by connecting some jump leads to the starter motor, but with the original wiring connected all I get is the relay clicking. I think I need better positive/negative cable to the engine etc?. I have just fitted a battery relocation kit in the trunk.
Worked out the shifter cable was not pulling the lever into park, #-o
so thats now sorted.
Also know that the gearbox switch thing is ok as it only clicks the relay in park or neutral.
I also did not fit the trans dipstick so need to put it in now, mmmm any suggestions?
Also..! I have fitted a new autometre oil presuure gauge, when the ign is on it goes up to just under 100 on the gauge, I followed the diagrams!?
Is that ok until it starts up?
 oh and 1 more question!
on my wiring diagram the dizzy cap has a rotation to the left but the mopar cap goes to the right, why is that? and can anyone let me know the lead sequence on the cap?
Thankyou!, just these small things to sort hopefully Tuesday night and then it might start!

Cheers Alex, its a BB, i did get under the car and try and shove it in but seems on to much of an angle? If it should go in then I will spend some more time with it.
The battery is earthed to the rear inner wheel arch.
The shifter cable problem was from another post, It just kept rolling even in park.

Engine has to be earthed to the frame as well, thick cable esp if the battery is in the trunk.

firing order- 18436572 distributor rotates counter clockwise, big and small block caps fit and small block goes clockwise

No1 lead goes to the tower at about 5 past looking into the engine bay, make sure the motor is at top dead firing on no1 and the rotor is pointing at that tower, if not move the intermediate shaft until it does.

hey mogs, when you fit the dipstick tube make sure all is well dry no grease etc and put a small smear off silicon around the tube as it slides in,
next i would put a seperate switch for the fuel pump but make it ignition conscious that way you are in control off the pump being on orr off not the ign key its a Bananarama! pain working on the car with ign on for any reason and the Bananarama! pump is running all, the time,
also your rotor runs anti clockwise,
you should fit a cappilary oil gauge on that motor you can have complete conficdence then on the reading, i dont like electric gauges.
make sure your shifter cable aint nowhere near the headers it will melt even with a 1" gap,
deff get the engine earthed i earth them in severall places off the front off block or head and same at the rear
