Well spotted Rich, your almost as observanrt as Dunc. :thumbright:
The spindles are off a late jag and have not bothered to knock the rings off.
On the other hand could put a sensor on them and plug it into a data logger.
But as this car is going out old school the only logs are probably going to be in a race suit ala naughty Al at shakey. :D

Today the move did not happen!
I forgot that before the engine could come out I had to sort the headers which Dunc you will remember and were off an A body Phew Spit.
If you have never done this job it is like wrestleing eels, you need 4 hands to get it set up for tacking every bit has sharp edges and I cut my hands to ribbons and almost knocked myself uncontious two or three times on the fenders
most pipes had to be cut and shut but managed to get 7 out of 8 to reconnect to the collecters which I figured was a result.
I just have one pipe (no 6) which has to be completley rerouted from the manifold.
At least I know what bits I need to finish the job so it was a big step forward and the clock is ticking 40 days to its first run out.
BIG BIG thanks to James who did all the tacking which is not easy on old 1mm thick tube.
Tony the silver fox has completly gutted the camper and repainted the inside so that is looking much fresher we are going to lay beech laminate floor and recover the seats it will be great when it is done still looking for a 3 way fridge if anyone has one laying around.

Had to answer a shed load of questions to order my new torque converter and one of the questions asked was the engine was externally balanced or internally balanced.
Now I have to admit I knew very little about this subject so investigated and it seemed that some engines were internal and some external depending on year and size.
Basically as we all know by the holes in our cranks that the counterweights are drilled to balance the rotating mass.
due to the internal clearances there was not enough room in some engines to totally balance the rotatimg assembly so additional wieghts were added to the harmonic balancers and the tourqe converters.
So it is important when chopping and changing bits on engines to determine weather they are intrenal or external so that the damper is matched and that the correct flexplate and converter is used.
Interesting innit :read2:
