Hi Dave and Challyman,

Can you post a piccy of said crack as a point of interest please?

Sounds like someone is doing the sensible thing and going to the Ali-side!

The only Mopar people who are really stuffed are the Stock appearing racers!!!
Apparently Mother Mopar had the 452/edelbrocks made to get them homologised for racing in da US of A!
NHRA etc said we moparfolks have to suffer with our 40year old iron heads for at least another ren years because there are so many B/B iron heads still left in da World!!! :help:
Bleeding officials, what do they Know???
Bet Chevvy guys got ali-heads sanctioned OK?

Anyway back to the thread.
Had one of the ICE heads sealed at a machine shop in London, it was white and very expensive and sealed up a treat!
Block cracks tend to self seal by calclifying, but heads due to heat/cold cycles don't seem to do it themselves.
All iron is pouros, but at thicknesses less than 0.100" water and oil can leach through unabated.

Good luck to all still running IRON(BLOCKS AND HEADS)

Tewnty something to go! Baaca, no sleep till da next Nats :D

Ya know i was the one of the first to get ally heads here in colorado, they were back ordered and i just happend on them and was building a 440 at the time, so when i finally got to drive the car the first thing i noticed was it was sooo much lighter in the front ,and the second thing i noticed was the weight transfer was better,i just wanted to add another post to keep this going

Bacca. For the last time! I do not have thousands of pounds for new heads and pistons. Leave it out please!
I would like NOTHING MORE than ally heads. For fs sake I would go out and buy a pair tomorrow if I could.
Which bit of NO MONEY do you not get??

This is my repaired head. See the weld just under the gasket surface for the two center ports?

There is no sign of a crack on the suspect head. Nothing at all. But still water escapes somewhere under the exhaust ports there.

might be worth coating all that repaired area with some kind of epoxy resin dave at least it will rule that part out and much easier with the head off as you well know :thumbright:

Man i see your point Dave, perhaps you can have the repaired/sealed but eventually that internal crack/porosity is going to rear its ugly head again,

maybe you can repair them and save for something else in the future,i wish i could send these 906,s i have to you but by the time you get the machine work done,replace/or swap out the springs valves it just wouldent be worth it,you are in a rock and a hard place i feel for you dude sucks bad :x

Just to be clear. the head photographed above is not the problem head. That one is fine.

The problem head looks MUCH nicer than that. There really is nothing to see and the surface is good, clean and smooth unlike that one.

then there is some porosity inside most likely, perhaps it can be sealed?

Look at these Babies!

All B/B heads go there under the centre exhaust ports! :?
Thats what they do!!!
A build up of heat and stress, turns the iron into mush metal.
We all have the same problem Dave, as I like to run iron heads TOO!
Don't think you have the monopoly on no money and nowhere to go!
I spoke to twenty people at the Nats in similar or worse situations than you and me!!!
So lets just get to 1000 replies as gentlemen and start a new thread on how I raised the funds for my new Ali heads!!!LOL :D

Baaca, no sheepin on the Job!

I think Dave was merely underlining the fact John, that ally heads etc. weren't an option in resolving his issues and therefore didnt see the point in your persistence on the ally head point. He was fully aware of their benefits. :D
