Brooklands by Torch Light

Post by Derek »

I've just got this from Donna at Brooklands, might be of interest to some of you................................................

Torchlight Tours at Brooklands Museum

A rare chance to see the darker side of Brooklands Museum as night falls.

As the nights start drawing in and temperatures drop, Brooklands Museum in Weybridge is flinging its doors open to the public inviting you to see the Museum by torchlight.

Our expert guides will take you on a special tour of the Museum taking in the vast array of vehicles in the Motoring Village and aircraft in the Wellington Hangar before ascending Test Hill and walking along the world famous Banking of the racing circuit.

However, this after-hours tour offers something even more spectacular; taking advantage of the quiet, dark atmosphere, you will have the unique opportunity of venturing into the much-talked about tunnel that runs underneath the race track. This was the main entrance tunnel built in 1907 for spectators. In WWII it was used by the Vickers aircraft factory as a secret production facility but since the war ended, its use has been largely unknown. The tunnel is not normally open to the public on visiting days and sightings of ghostly figures have been reported here in the past, so do keep a sharp look out!

Arrival time for the tour is 6pm where you will be greeted with a bowl of comforting hot soup & a roll before venturing out into the darkness with your guide. The dates for these Tours are:

Thursday 11th November, Wednesday 24th November, Wednesday 12th January, Wednesday 19th January, Tuesday 1st February, Wednesday 16th February.

To launch this winter season though, a special Hallowe’en Tour takes place on 31st October. Join us at 6pm for a sit down 2 course meal before your spooky tour commences at 7.30pm. The menu for the evening is aptly themed too comprising beef & pumpkin casserole with treacle & pecan tart with custard followed by tea or coffee.

The tours last approximately 1.5 – 2 hours and are not suitable for children under 12 years of age. To get the most from the experience, warm clothing, walking shoes and a good torch are strongly recommended.

Tickets must be pre-booked and are £14.50 each for adults/seniors, £12 for children (12 – 16 yrs), £10 for BTM Members and each guest. All prices include soup and a roll. Tickets for the special Hallowe’en Tour are £30 per person and include a 2 course meal and the Museum tour.

Tickets can only be purchased in advance by calling Donna Hopton on 01932 857381 ext 253 or by e-mailing: events@brooklandsmuseum.com
