Parcel shelf speakers

Post by Anonymous »

Decided to put some sounds in my car, and the apertures in the parcel shelf measure up as approx 5x7 and 6x8 inches why are they different ? And can you get a pair of speakers in these sizes ?

Hi Doug

I made a ply suround and mounted 9x6 speaker below the rear parcel shelf and left the original cut outs alone.

Check my thread and you should see how I did mine.

Too right you wont loose much sound quality through the slightly smaller aperture...especially with a V8 growling away up front

Anton have checked out your thread and although I didn't read every post I couldn't find any reference to parcel shelf speakers :? Also Is there anything you can't turn your hand to ? I also like to do as much of the work on my car as poss, but you seem to do everything , and to a very high standard :thumbright:
Cheers Doug

We also mounted speakers in the Satellite's rear shelf - mounted the speakers to rectangular pieces of wood fixed to the parcel shelf using existing screw holes (at least i think the holes were already there - it was quite some time ago!).

The wood was painted gloss black but looks brown in these pics... :?

I just drilled new holes in the metal shelf, and mounted 6x9's directly to the underside of the existing apertures. Like you Rob, I didn't touch the hardboard parcel shelf, so they aren't visible from above. They sound great too - when the engine isn't running

BTW, it always puzzled me that the rear speaker apertures are oriented in different directions on 68 and 69 B bodies, but they are parallel on my 70? Something to do with mono and stereo radio options?

I think its just that in 1970 they finally got the design right, in this, and every other respect :D
