No it's a '98 model with 16 inch wheels. I usually average 17 around town and 20-odd on a long run. I tend to drive it with fuel economy in mind. So I use the throttle as gently as possible and back off early to use the brakes as little as possible. I onlt ever put my foot down if I am late for something and when I do the cost is high.TyreFryer wrote:Are these for your Grand Cherokee Rob? Don't you have 15" rims on them?
I fitted the largest tyre possible (without modifications) on mine which is 30x9.50 R15, averages 13 mpg around town and 17 mpg on a long journey.

Got the 255 wide BFGs fitted this morning.
I did worry about them catching on something (I really wanted the 245s but couldn't get any from anywhere) and they do catch a little.
At half lock on a bump they just catch a plastic lip on the front bumper. Easy fix to trim it.
On full lock the front tyres rub the chassis and anti roll bar a little. Nowt I can do about that.
So if anyone is thinking of fitting bigger tyres on their Grand Cherokee please take note!
(They do look the business though

Dunno?latil wrote:Tyres rubbing anything is MoT fail. Are there no lock stop adjusters?

It catches the anti roll bar one side more than the other. This is the worst side. But as you can see there is little to see on the edge of the tyre itself and if push came to shove there is plenty of meat on the tread. I could just shave off a quarter inch.
But the guy that fitted them is also my MOT bloke so I don't expect problems.

Here is where I thought it might be rubbing the chassis.
It is just on one side and in fact it is the control arm that it Bananarama!. You have to have the steering as hard over as possible to get it to catch there. I could maybe ding that area with a hammer?
Also i didn't want the white letters showing on the outside. But I forgot to tell them that.

white letters on the outside is cool
The reason its rubbing is cos sometime in it life somebody has adjusted the tracking & centred the steering wheel so it will turn a tighter circle in one direction than it will in the other direction, not all cars use lock stops but instead rely on the limits of the steering rack, so if the rack aint centred then it will have slightly more lock in one direction

It has been messed with for sure because the steering is off centre but the tracking rod is rusted solid so it will need a lot of heat and effort to get it shifted.andyrob wrote:white letters on the outside is cool![]()

However it hits the arb on both sides of the car. Just slightly more on one side than the other.
