Thats the kind entertainment they like downunder...
big prizes for being burnout king....
sponsorship (basically tyres wheels and bodyshop)
vague celebrity status
maybe an interview on the TV or an adverts for car polish and lots of mag coverage

do the show circuit
get your awards for polishing
then Bananarama!

you get burnout comps at shows with no racing.....!!!!

its a waste of tyres/axles/gearbox.... i agree.....

When I took James's Charger for a spin around SPR one time it really made me remember how much fun my own Aussie Charger was to drive. So light and nimble compared to the Challenger. If most of them were not so rotten I would consider another one.

I'll see your charger and raise you sub £300 sierra cosworths at Chesterfield Car Auctions at the height of the joy riding/ stupid insurance period when the only people who could get them insured were on traders policies....oh for a big barn and a time machine......

Shameful and true!
It's a minority, thankfully not all the show cars suffer this fate.

Some of the cars that cop this treatment have had unbelievable amounts of time and money put into them too.
I just never have quite got it.

After about 15 years of not reading 'Street Machine' magazine I have got to say it is still full of this same sort of excrement! Just glossier and more of it.
Subscription was not renewed!

Even worse than those burnout competitions were/are the knobs that think they can do this on the street earning almost all the classic 60's & 70's Aussie V8's & /6's the title of 'Hoons car's' and unwanted attention.

I'll take a deep breath and calm down now!

i was tarring with a wide brush..... :)
nobody does a burnout like they do in Oz
its become an art form rather then a means to an end...showmanship

the same with many of the real high horsepower cars
designed and built to go on he mobile dyno at the show and blow the rollers off it.......

just don't get that kind of thing anyhwere else

i do like the sleeper mind.....

drives about quite happy with 500ftlb of torque uner his right foot

smashin

This little emoticon seems to suit.... Only I can't figure out how to put it in the text so I'll try as a pic.
