Having battled a ropey TH400 for far too long I'm reluctant to get involved with too much trans woes but...
I'm in lust with that '72 Satellite which I'm sure you've seen on eBay. The only concern is that it describes the trans as "needing adjusting" because you have to "rev it up" to get it to go in reverse.
As I am always on a minimal budget I wondered if anyone had any thoughts about if this is likely to be an "adjustment" or something which can be done with the box in the car or if the box is dying.
Said car would be my daily if procured.

Alistair like the 72 if you can get it for 2.5 is cheap enough.
My thoughts for what there worth.
It is a 4 door and being 72 so it will never have a high resale value so it would be wise not to overspend on any restoration.
A respray would be more than the car is worth and 4 tyres will Be £350 before you start, however if you DIY it it wont be to bad.
If the reverse band is worn then it is an indicter that the box is in need of a refresh which is a take out and put back job get a quote from blue or Dunc.
The fuel tank leak is the seal on top of the tank not to difficult.
These models were a great driving car I think better than the earlier 68 stuff but even with a 318 it will be juicy depending on how loud the exhaust is.

cheers, paint I can do, body I can do, transmissions are a black art. As I say I had a troublesome TH400 which makes me nervy of any trans faults now (I managed to pay for it rebuilding twice and it still was never right, but thats another story for another day)
it kinda depends on how much my Mustang sells for. I have my own opinion of what a beige more-door is worth, but in an open market, who knows? I think we have similar views to the car's value.
Cop car replica would be too "predicatble" - I have that whole "Dirty Harry" vibe going on in my mind though. His was beige, or was it copper?
I have a couple of other cheaper and closer vehicles I'm interested in too. The train fare from here to there is £75 before we even start...

the transmission fault is internal and will require removal and a reseal off the clutches /bands etc and anything else that may be knackered,
