Glass! help me get to the nats!

Post by Ivor »

Got everything done...even got a registration number today but I can't remember how to get the door glass in...I've been on it five hours and got nowhere!
Can anyone give me the idiots guide? the manual is no help at all..for one I can't see how the plastic guides go into the plastic/felt run channl at the front, there are no grooves in the plastic channel, do I force it in?
The rear channel is no problem.
Does the glass go into the door first, then put the front channel and vent window frame in?

I'm really stuck here and as it looks like it's going to pee down, I've got to have some door glass...and only two days to go! :help:

Do you mean the guides that fit to the glass? the 'seal' they run in is U shaped and yeah you fiddle them in mate.

I am sure the drop glass goes in first but not fitted to the reg etc then the 1/4 light ass. then lift the glass up and into the guide, fit the rear guide and ajust once on the reg, remember the wee allen grub screw behing the teeny hole in the upper door panel

Oh and something else...the front U shaped plastic channel is only long enough to go into the channel inside the door or up to seal when the window is wound up...does it go at the bottom of the channel or at the top...any ideas?

Cheers Alex, thought that would be the case, otherwise you would have bare channel showing when the glass was down.

Take no notice of Kev, he's talking out of his assembly  us engineers know what you were talking about! :D

Thanks for your help guys...driver's door done, passenger door to do tonight and for anyone assembling B body door innards, this works for me:

Take the felt window seals out of the door.
Make sure the cap head bolt accessible through the little hole next to the remote mirror control is loosened off.
Make sure the vent frame lower bracket is in place inside the door next to the top door hinge.
Put the vent frame and front window runner in a vice.
Slip in the new plastic run channel.
Clip the plastic guides into the front edge of the window glass.
Like Alex says, fiddle the guides and glass into the channel (you may have to use a bit of force).
Put the glass and frame as an assembley into the door and while the glass is right down inside the door, fit the door window felt seals.
When fitting the frame, make sure the bolt at the bottom of the front window channel goes into the bracket at the bottom of the inside of the door and nip up all the bolts, including the cap head screw, so you can adjust it later for fit.
Push the glass up with our hand and fiddle in the rear window channel and bolt up.
With the glass up, slide the window regulator through the access hole at the front of the door (grease it all up first).
Adjust the frame, tighten up all the bolts, slap on the door card and the handles.
Go to the Nats for a top weekend!
:D
