Yep your on the mark Dave, 9 bolt pattern with Borg on the casing, hence it must be a standard 7 3/4.

Any ideas ref manual braking before I restore the servo unit as is.....

Hi David.
I don't know my VH Valiant specs but my experience is that the 3 main Aussie manufacturers of the time all put front disc brake with booster on their V8 powered cars.
Not sure that it's a good idea to make your job of stopping the thing any more difficult than the engineers intended.
Is your booster faulty?

I have two sevos both different and one needs repairing so I will have to use both to make one sound one !

Reason for questioning is that with servo and master cyclinder fitted there appears to be little clearance for the rear spark plug and have seen articles on a number of mopars being converted to manual brakes junking the servo. When I saw the below while surfing it gave me the idea.

Welcome to owning a RHD Mopar V8.
You will need at least 3 elbows on each arm to do any work on the drivers side of the engine bay.

Engine is in the same place as the US A body - offset to the right.

Expect that your booster will be the same as on my VG - see pic
What is the problem with your booster anyway?
Any pics?

I have a couple of extension bars in my socket set that I use to get my hidden plug out, from the outboard side of the booster & master cylinder.

This is Anton's thread on a US Bendix servo rebuild, may be of interest to you.

One of the boosters has a broken locator which I will repair with parts from the other unit, so I should be okay. As previous was interested in the manual braking system as it looked an easy mod and wondered how it would affect the pedal pressure. Probably best to rebuild as is and wonder about the mod later.

I thought the previous owner had ordered all the break servo bits from Australia to repair it?

I had noticed at the time that the servo on your Charger is different to the one on my Charger :?

There was a plethora of oddments I collected with the car for instance two servos' one broken which matched the orginal master cyclinder which needed freeing and servicing which I am doing. Also a newer master cylinder with the cover/clip lost, seals missing and servo with different rod lengths which I intend to rob for parts to repair the old one.

Hence I will put the original spec brake parts back on and replace the front lines as they were snipped off in rather haphazard fashion.

Just finished tonight, taken a couple of weeks to put all the lights back on and fathom out issues with some of the wiring ....hurrah all lights are working now. Next task overhaul the entire braking system !

If you have the time get the proper brake bits from Aus. I didnt and had to modify Escort Mk4 wheel cylinders but it worked OK. I think Trigger andys car has got Mini rear wheel cylinders. Necessity is the mother of invention owning an oz mopar over here. I run a Sierra alternator as well!

I remember Mike saying about it when there were no repro cylinders for the Chargers. It was a case of finding something with the same internal dimensions and similar fixings. I found the excort ones fitted with a bit of filing of the backplate, I just happened to have repaired an escort the week before and thought they looked similar.

Heres a couple of easy ones for yer......

Where does the hood release bracket fit, I have looked under the dash and can't find the 2 locator screw holes anywhere. Also where does the horn reside in the engine bay.

This car is like a jigsaw puzzle as i have boxes of bits and no photo template to follow !

Expect the bonnet release should be under the dash close to the a pillar kick panel. This is where my VG is and I remember my parents VK & CLs were there.

Horn(s) should be on the radiator support panel inside the engine bay, on the drivers side.
My guess is that the 770 probably had 2 horns (high & low note).

See if you can hunt up a factory service manual from ebay. Have lots of detail for rebuilding everything from transmission to brakes.

Have a the two volumes of the workshop manual, but sadly it doesn't indicate where the hood release bracket should sit, no guiduing holes to help hence a photo would be ideal. Also at the same time I would like to see what the horn looks like and located as per the previous on the drivers side near rad.

Thanks,

David
