Sorry couldn't resist that, been there and done that when I was a nipper, but my hearing has actually improved with age but I think it may have peaked!

Gun fire does have that effect - obviously very percussive and hard on the eardrums, especially if you have been doing house clearances.....

my auntie has 2 and has done for 4 years
i never knew
so small these days....
not the old whistling things they used to be
hers basically boost the frequencies she is missing so she can have a conversation in a pub or other place infested with background noise

Dave and Pete
I must admit I didn't come across your mothers or aunties in Iraq, what unit were they in? Are they now doing Gadaffi's protection?
It is percussive damage, exactly the reasons Pete said. Little barrelled weapons, big rounds, big noise. Yellow ear defenders don't cut a dash when you are trying to blend in with the local towel tops.
Good thing is that I can't hear you drunken gits snoring in the tents at the nats !!!
Hey ho, whats next to drop off....libido.......is that right Pete?

No, it's the eyesight at around 45 next; unavoidable fact of nature......other more important capabilities are still functioning as well as they ever did
