I think the worst time was having a half completed " cottage ", totally skint and my wife looking down through rafters that was the first floor and saying

" Jonny, I`m pregnant "

I didn`t know whether to laugh or cry.

Got my head down, finished the house and sold it within a couple of years of finishing it.

Keep at it Pete, will be well worth it :thumbright:

Spooky!

I had EXACTLY the same experience on my first house - a small tied property in Hatfield that was owned and built originally by DeHavillands (of Comet fame).

It seemed a lot easier then, and I was considerably younger and even more stupid then........I think ignorance is a great protector!!!

Well, as the weather was good today, Julie and I decided to do a bit of work on the old Barn.

The feather-edge boarding needed to be replaced on one gable from top to bottom. The lower bit was straight forward, but once up to the top of the toilet doors, it became far more complex.

In the end we had to bite the bullet and take off the last line of pan tiles from one side (some were missing and the next job is to cut some more to size) and then remove the end gable wood so we could access the old feather-edge and then cut the new to size.....

Working as a team we managed to get this done today:

Tomorrow Julie is on cement-mixing duty, and I am up the tower re-pointing the ridge and the leading edges on both sides.....

Thanks, Andy :thumbright:

We have also, at some point, got to re-clad some of the back of the barn where the Corvette is parked, but at least that will not require the use of the tower....

Thanks Jerry, I'm a regulatory specialist, not a builder!
We did have a debate before I posted on the correct terminology, and then gave up!!!

Get some pointing done and then watching the Rugby - Come on England!!! :thumbright:

Too true, mate - there is a tiny chink of light at the end of the tunnel ;)

We got on well today, apart from me being lazy and watching the (poor) rugby while Julie was out painting!

We finished the first coat with a brilliant sunset going down and the last few brush strokes were done in braile ;) ;)

All in all a very satisfying bit of work and a sense of achievement over the weekend.
