cheers guy but I really want it to look standard, and leave the lid on ,my centre console is the same as a charger, quite deep ,it "looks" as though an aftermarket shifter will fit in there!!

i dont think there is any aftermarket shifter that will fit in your console top plate like the factory one, i have a spare top plate for sale, buy yourself a shifter cut the top plate neat around the shifter housing, you can fit another later if you want to go back to standard, but the shiftr will fit inside the actual console plastic housing

I managed to get my shifter into the stock e-body console (I like a Challenge) but it is not nearly as neat as it would have been if I had made a new top plate from ply or ally.

Whilst we are on the subject does anyone know how difficult it is to convert a column shift to a floor shift?

If you got all the right bits its really easy even changing the column is not a bad job if you havent got the bits give the "Cannonball" a call i'm sure he could help you out.

Calvers, If you are talking about fitting an aftermarket cable operated Bananarama! then it's easy enough, but if you mean fitting the factory type floor shifter and console, that's a fair bit harder as you'd need to get it all out of a donor car as all the brackets are welded to the floor.

How come "shifter" came up as bananarama?

Did you swear? Some of these forums have automated keyword replacements. On the photography forum I administer we have the lens brand 'Sigma' automatically changed to either stigma or smegma!

I was really hoping to bung a B&M starshifter style unit in the car along with a reverse valve body. I think It will probably end up with a garage to carry out the work, I've done enough damage as it is!

Has anyone got a centre console going begging?

Mine is like Guys,
made a new top plate out of ali and covered it with wood grain contact sheet cut to replicate the original, cut a 2"mm strip around the edge and shifter, peel it off and it leaves the Ali below looks like stock. almost
hide all my switches in the console glove box, most never realise its not stock, also changed the shifter knob to a Pistol Grip on the Pro stick.
ALL KILLER NO FILLER
Nostalgia, its not what it used to be.
