Is the distributor stock mopar electronic with the vac can, or without , or MSD ??
34* now I never said all would like 34 just most, so 34* total or whatever, come up with from a 15 year spread sheet that Don has built, with the correct initial and curve for the motor and car and application then sort the fuel system out, then check plugs for the initial marks and total marks on the strap, heat range on the threaded area, and the fuel rings on the porceline and colour lastly
I've only just learnt from Don that all the timing details are on the plug not just colour for mixture, i've only been a mechanic for 26 years DOH
Now people may know this but i didn't, and in five years on this board i've never heard anyone asking where on the strap is the V shaped total mark whenever timing is in question ??????
this is why we wanted some second hand plugs for wildmans charger to see where all the indicators were at before we got the right ones, but i seem to remember everyone taking the mic

Kev when it's pointed out by someone like Don it all makes sense and falls into place.
Remember a while ago i replied to a question you'd posted about heat range possibly for eddy heads can't quite remember, well it wasn't the colour i was talking about, take no notice of what every other motor is at as they are all different even if they are built the same, you want 2/3 threads showing a bluey tempered colour, now thats off of the top of my head and the problem i've got at the moment is i'm having to cram soooo much in i can't remember it all.
Initial and total are marked on the strap, i do remember that total wants to be right on the bend in a V shape, again bluey tempered V, if the total is to much the V moves one way, if too little it moves the other ( thats one little bit i didn't retain at the moment, which way is which) no problem i just keep asking till i got it
Tickover mixture is the strap end of the porceline, nice light brown ring all the way around, bad combustion chamber efficiency can make this ring less than full.
WOT mixture is right down inside where the porceline meets the steel
Guys plugs are perfect to analize as they are clean, it's no use if they covered in oil, carbon etc, if Guy gets pictures of the back of the strap and the porceline and also right down inside then i bet Don will tell him what the timing is, inital/ total and what to do with the fuel system.
When you read this Guy don't tell me any figures

Neither had i Blue, it's all totally new to me
It's all on Don's site which is at the bottom, take a look under tech,
I can just about get my head around it, not sure i can explain it to anyone yet
timing differences are going to make chamber temps change which will heat the strap and cause the V burn in different places depending on temp, mixture changes will do the same thing
try it anyone, send pics of plugs see what come back, what ya got to lose???
I can't doubt someone that's in the 11's with an iron 318 with no gas

I read plugs like this, everyone thought I was loopy sitting on the pit wall with a plug and magnifying glass when I ran the ASCARS ! I spotted a lean cylinder and reported my findings to the engine specialists and got poo poo'd, after the next race I checked again and spotted teeny metal spots on the same plug, reported this and was larfed at again, next meet the motor went off,it was pulled down and checked, the cause you ask? one small hole and detonation damage to the crown, who is larfing now....
It is very hard to get your head around it and I doubt I am even in the same game let alone league as Don but you can learn to read where the engine is at.

I'll remember it all for sure one day soon, but if ya think about it whats the one thing that will tell ya everything thats going on inside a cylinder thats got to be the one thing that makes it all happen... the plug
Don also says that each cylinder should be anilized as heat is different from cyl to cyl especially on SB and plugs fitted to suit
Even if the plugs are cruddy they still tell a good story
