HATE BRAKES!

Post by Jeff »

Chuffin Cherokee has shot front brakes.... Needs rotor, calipers, pads and hoses.. Midas wanted $900!

I am really busy, so no time to do them.... But I am not paying nearly 1000 bucks for them!

Grrrr....

Crikey Jeff, I paid around £100 for discs and pads for the Grand Cherokee off Ebay in the UK, (pattern not genuine). Sounds a bit pricey living over there, my commiserations.

Midas is a bit like Kwik Fit... They want 900 bucks to do the car.

I have work up past my earholes, and have no time to do it myself.

I can buy all the parts for $170... That is why I am Bananarama! off!

The Fury is not running, Billy has the G. Cherokee in Toronto at his GF's Condo. So we is pretty much stuffed!

I found my brakes were getting very bad at the beginning of the year but the pads looked OK?

When i pulled them apart I found that on all 4 wheels the tabs on the pads had corroded INTO the sliders. So they could not slide and all my braking effort was just bending the pads together.

I had to pull the calipers and I welded/ground each slider so that the pads could move freely. But apart from that the pads and discs were fine.

I replaced the front brakes on my Cherokee in a couple of hours - worth doing it yourself to save $730. Would have been quicker, but like Dave, I had to grind the grooves worn in the sliders.

Well they came apart easy enough!
Just ordered the new parts, I am amazed the bloody thing was stopping!

$158.00 for 2 hoses, 2 discs, 2 calipers and a set of pads.. 97 quid the lot! Cool! :thumbright:

That is better than $900!

Well if you haven't got the time to do them yourself cos you got work up round your earholes, and the money you will loose by taking time off to do the brakes yourself is more than Midas want for doing it, you is gonna have to git yer wallet out aintcha you tight git   :D
