Spoke to Jem a few hours ago and he told me the weather was really good on Friday, but they wouldn't let him run on slicks, what the hell is that about?
Don't forget Friday afternoon street drags open to any vehicle pre '73, but must comply with a full exhaust system. Treads or slicks are permitted. Track open from 12.00 noon till 5.00pm supbject to track and weather coonditions permitting.
This is copied from shaky site so no idea what that was about? just heard from kiwi they started racing hour ago but big spill shut again so he has packed up ! Shame really even though I feel like saying couldn't have happened to a nicer club !! But actually it's a shame to be fair we had fab nats

We have our Nats for Mopar & Muscle Cars, Rods have Hot Rod Drags.
2 different types of events, targeted @ two different types of vehicles
Don't see why you feel excluded . . .
Yeah, there will always be the odd cars that overspill into each event, thats life I guess.

Really nice day in the end, a few stupid hold ups but a fair bit of sun and good racing and bollix talk
Good to see all the MMA mates for prob the last one this year too
Excellent bit of skirt there as well, bonus
Evening was pretty good, sat was wet, band were pants but enjoyed the tittilation, before you ask, no i didn't get a touch on. Sunday track didn't open till 2, got to the front got pushed back for a leak, me and John S tried to fix it but leaked and boiled over very quickly, so i'm glad i didn't run, might have done some serious damage, still, thank you anyway John.
Hung around with John, Philth, Jem and Dave( Acker Bilk ), good lad but wouldn't do me a rendition of strangers on the shore but did suprisingly give me a very short answer to a question and it didn't involve him loaning me money.

The reason they gave for 'no slicks' on the Friday was because the track wasn't prepped. Have to say that's a new one on me - even more so when they then allowed and eighties (as in 80's) twin turbo barking mad Rolls Royce down the track that ran an 8.70. Apart from that and the crap weather I had a good time.
But here's another thing: I've been going to Shakey for about 12 years now and in all that time I haven't seen one single improvement. The toilets are simply shameful for a start. In the 'Food Court' they've got exactly five benches to sit on and the stands look like they could collapse at any moment.
Now I'm no accountant and there's obviously overheads to consider. I reckon there were around 4,000 people there over the weekend each paying around £25. That equates to £100k. Multiply that over a years worth of events and it starts to seriously stack up. Have I got all this wrong or is it just a case of the owners not giving a toss about the conditions and just taking it for all they can get?
At least Keith at Santa Pod upgraded the main Gents although it took more than 10 years. Thing is for anyone going for the first time to Shakey you aren't going to forget the facilities and for £25 quid you should get more. I bet plenty of those first timers will think again before returning.
