Post by Derek »

I'm off to Florida in a couple of weeks, landing at Sanford, staying in Orlando for a few days then driving north and up to the Carolinas.

Where can i get parts like, brake hoses, rubber door seals, shocks, ali rocker covers, service parts, door handles.Any names or addresses would be great.

Stuff parts, go to the Race Rock Cafe ! ooh and the cafe on the A1A (I think) in Daytona, look on the walls and ceilings at all the autographs of NASCAR drivers from way back when until right now, awesome place !

On an aside :D The Paddock is on the west coast of Florida, can't remember the name of the town, Jeff will remember !

If your going to daytona just before you get to the race track, there is a go-karting place on the left hand side of the road, in the back they have 4 or 6 rails set up on a track running small block Ch*vys but still great fun especially if ther is more than one of you :D

If youare going to Daytona or North from Orlando, I'd suggest staying off the Interstate and instead drive Highway 1. It takes you right up along the coast throught Daytona and St Augustine (My first stop in a 3904 mile fun filled action packed 2 week vacation. We are going to Cooters (www.cootersplace.com) in Gatlinburg, Nashville, Memphis, Dallas (Got tickets to see Alan Jackson) Fort Worth (Off to the Rodeo) then down to the Rio Grande and back along the Gulf of Mexico to Florida and the Burt Reynolds & Friends museum in Jupiter FL (www.burtreynoldsmuseum.org)

Tip No 1 - If you go to Daytona International Speedway and want to see the track for free, they have a tunnel of lights and stuff which you have to pay for, there is a door at the back of the gift shop that takes you straight to the stands.

Tip No 2 - Yes Pep Boys for shiny stuff, but for service parts try Wal-Mart. You should be able to get plugs and oil/air filters no problem.

Now I must hang my head in shame as I didn't rent a Mopar

I got the NEW 2005 MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE!!! WHOOO HOOO!!!

I always find the guys at the NAPA Autoparts stores are really helpful for all your mechanical parts, theres one located at the Downtown Kissimmee end of the 192, turn onto Orange Blossom Trail and they are about 1/2 mile down on your right.
Have a good one mate, jealous ? me?

I also recommend Motel 6's if you are not booking anything but sorting accomodation as you go as they are as good as Super 8's etc but cheaper. Didn't have any problems finding a room on Route 66 last year. Also we buy beer at the gas stations and when we get to the room fill the sink with ice from the free machine then when we get back from dinner, cold beer!!

If you are booking hotels, try www.tripadviser.com for other peoples independant reviews of hotels, restaurants and attractions. I've based this years trip around comments I've read on this site, e.g. One hotel in Fort Worth recieved the review "Cockroaches - Do Not Stay Here!" Handy eh?!?
