BTI, VAT & all that

Post by ronfenton »

I haven't seen much on here about the BTI and low VAT but we have been getting cars in successfully under the BTI. We had one rejected because it was too far from orignal.

For guidelines, the car must be over 30 years old, be "rare," be original, be complete and I was told over the phone by HMRC that it should be a running vehicle but again this is a difficult one to prove.

They won't accept modified cars, engines, gearboxes missing etc.

Every vehicle is a seperate application and individually assessed.

I have also found out that the HMRC are not going appeal the recent case they lost so this is here for a while.

If successful the duty is 0% and VAT 5%.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Ron

Very Interesting the BTI scenario!
In 2004 I was denied my BTI as a 69 Charger wasn't rare enough and there were something like '500' applications by May that year already!!! :?
The taxation office were clamping down and no more BTI's anymore.
So I told the BTI guys that it was a rare Nascar homologation model of 500 made for 69.
He then said that the '500' logo was a trim option for Chargers and Cornets and I was trying it on LoL!!! :D
Then I had a real stroke of luck and he found out I was telling the truth and I got my BTI and saved a small fortune!

Good to hear they are BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbright:
