A Good Day

Post by Sideways »

Well it's been a while coming, the first time I have driven the beastie and to my knowledge the first time it's been driven in over 8yrs.

Since being taken off the road she's been treated to a replacement engine/box, most of the braking system replaced, ball joints, gaitors and electrical faults sorted and a multitude of things refit and she was ready to go.

Drove well, with the only sticking point ATF dripping from under the tranny tunnel when I returned home, will check that out later.

Loads of little issues to sort for MOT, then cosmetics for the interior, but shes now a runner....hurrah ! Oh and get rid of those bloody wheels as I have some slot mags to polish, tyre up and fit.

Piece of advice I can't help but think I'm missing some metal trim work from around both headlights (area in red) service manual doesn't show any trim but looks odd to me ? If I'm missing something can anyone help ?

What do you thing guys, another one brought back from the dead......

David.

The colour is sub-lime like the E49, but the camera didn't do it justice unfortunately.

Still pondering the side mid stripe but with the black boot/bonnet and wing combo I'm not sure it needs it.

inner C pieces are missing

pressed steel inner headlamp bezel

they are a trim piece that goes round the light and bolt to the grill

queensland valaint spares had some a while back

this is their quote for parts i was interested in

the grill AUD200
the top of the grill surround AUD160
the ends of the grill surround Cast ally C Bits AUD40/ea

the bottom of the grill surround AUD100 (secondhand)

and the inner C shaped headlamp surrounds AUD40/ea

must be in restorable condition so they can be 770/RTed.

also drivers side drving light mount the metal bit AUD150/ea (secondhand)
have plastic and front with lense but metal bit is mushed

Oh yeah

looks like you are missing the alloy corners under the indicators as well
although hard to see

they go behind the bumper and are usually painted body colour
they fill the space that would be taken up if the wings were used with a full wrap round bumper off a chrylser BY Chrylser

only VH

VJ indicators had itegral trim pieces

Looking Good, nice to see your progress & see another one return to the road. Good luck with the MOT.
Might still have some bits you need, will post some pics in the for sale section, as now having had a dig through most of the bits in the garage, have found loads of bits you have asked for in the past. ie: washer bottle with pump, washer jets, wiper arms, blades etc.

Cheers Steve

It's the ends of the driving light bezels that I can not see in this pic. makes me think they are not there...
Are the driving lights or the bezels 'handed'? Is it possible that they are on the wrong sides and upside down. Making the finned end of the bezel inboard instead of outboard?
