Finished cam break in. Lot of (Even) clatter on drivers side bank. At fast idle the right side sounds like a bag of nails. Oil pressure is holding up fine. During break in there was sometimes (not always) some blue smoke.
Have I screwed up something re the lifters?

I'm going to run it briefly with the rocker cover off to see if the pushrods are turning.

Mustang Mike came 'round. We took off the rocker arm, found a freshly sheared bolt. puled it replaced all bolts with good non-stretched bolts.
No difference. The right side bank has a harsh rattle, sounds like bag of nails. Any ideas?

No steve, no tools in there, i broke it in cos everything i read or any dvice i got said to break it in. Either way, what ever is wrong is still wrong. Mike couldnt believe the 'play' in the rocker set up. frankly nor could I. I'm used to ajjustable rockers where you can take up the play. Maybe the lifters (or 2 or 3 of them) dont have sufficient oil and are allowing too much slack. I really dont have the experience and knowledge to diagnose it.

Miles,
maybe this is the time to detail to us exactly what parts have been moved from the the 318 to the 360 and whats new and what isn`t, then maybe someone can pinpoint the problem having got the full picture.
Just a thought.

Sounds like a bag of nails?

Sure you haven't got a Hemi in that? :)

Blimey Miles,

I've just read the other threads on this, don't give up mate, as everyone has recommended, step back from it for a while.

I worked my conkers off to get the Runner ready for the Nats and was beset with problems even on the way to Santa Pod, with all sorts of things going wrong, but I got there.

Totally shagged out was the best description of me when I got back... with a blown up heater matrix, a leaking gas tank, a broken windscreen and minus a shock absorber, the last thing I wanted to do was even look at it.

So I had two weeks off, did something I never do, stayed in and watched the telly...last night I started the old bird up and it was great!

I don't care how much more I've got to do, I'm right up for it and looking forward to the Hot Rod Drags!

I think Steve is right, it sounds like pedestals and pushrod lengths, but forget that at the moment...take a a break! 8)

Yeah Ivor, I know its not a hemi cos I've still got inner wings
The parts I moved from the 318 to the 360 are:

Rocker shafts, rockers, pushrods plus cam and lifters. These all worked happily together in the 318. There are no visual differences but I havent measurd accurately. The problem is one one bank only, if the 318 design was different i would have the problem on both banks, surely?
