"K" Frame identification, please!

Post by Pete »

I have a fair idea what this is, but the question I have is:

"What are the functions of the "ears" that stick up either side of the K frame - near the steering box location on one side and near the saddle on the other side?"

Are these purely to help guide the engine in place when lowering it (and maybe protecting the Steering Box) or do they serve another purpose?

I am minded to chop them off when I clean the "K" frame up (and brace the steering box area); but I would like a second opinion, thanks.

Also the year of the "K" frame would be nice to know ;)

Thanks!!!

What kind of car is that off of?it looks like it is a support for the steering box support ,I just looked at mine from an e body and it does not have that little horn /tab

somebody on here has to know what they are, I am not sure about removing them ,they might be for something :?

Yes, I don't have those on my E-Body.
Regarding ID, it looks like it is a post-67(?) because the earlier K members had a stud mount for the idler arm. Also pre-73(?) since it does not have spool engine mounts (the ? are because it could be a year either way, just going from memory).

There should be an oval tag welded to the front which will help ID it, has 2 numbers on it.

Blimey, I will have to wait for the experts to turn up ;)

No marker tags on it....

Incidentally, this is not a trick question....
