I know nothing about paint.
My car was sand blasted then painted in 2k primmer
What shall i buy celloes agrill ??????
Shall i just primmer then paint sand clear gloss ????
I want the car black but shall i paint the underside a lighter colour ???
do i paint the engine bay and wheel arches now ???
Any help would be great.

I would clean the bare metal with metal conditioner, hit it with one and a half coats of epoxy etch primer, no need to sand, but paint within 24 hours 3M stonechip (either smooth or textured) and straight over the top with a 2 pack top coat in body colour.
All done in a day and no sanding required!

Id do exactly as ivor says, only if youve never painted before Id just leave the black 3m underseal showing & not try & paint over it.
Again cos youve not painted before I wouldn't attempt to paint engine bay @ all, just leave that to the pro's,
& while Im on, I wouldnt paint car black beacuse it shows every imperfection & its a bugger to keep clean

I'm well aware of that Jim old son, but I think this Charger is about as far from a resto as you can get...but as you say, if Will's going for the original look, he should be prepared to put a nice stripe of overspray down each side of the floor pan!Jim wrote:Mopars were never painted under the car, they left the underside in grey primer. The only top coat colour under the car from the factory was overspray when spraying the sills etc.

Hi Jim Thanks for your postJim wrote:Mopars were never painted under the car, they left the underside in grey primer. The only top coat colour under the car from the factory was overspray when spraying the sills etc.
I do love the original look and matching number car but im afraid this wont be. My car is a non matching 318 car so fancy the custom look but nothing that cant be easily returned to original.
Regarding Black i know its the worst colour but since i was a little boy and watched Bullitt

This must be better than stone chip as you wont be able to see the rust forming under the stone chip (when a stone does chip the paint )
Any one

you ever tried chipping stone chip
its like...... made of stones and doesn't chip
not really but its like lumpy stove enammel but not prone to chipping like an enammeled bath
i had some bumpers once that had been done in it
nobody could get the stuff off without laughing screaming or swearing and them admitting defeat
POR 15 is a bit like hammerite
stick it on ya drain pipe
Alright
works but has a habit of eventually cracking and pealing off in gert big chunks, unless you ignore their cliams about just bunging it on and actually do a load of proper prep
then it s top notch.
Good for your battery tray and the bolty on mount under it that gets covred in acid when your mechanical regulator boils yer battery over
again
