Probably put this in the wrong forum. I have a 2001 BMW E39 touring and as I was driving along through France the warning light came up regarding the rear suspension when I got out the rear had dropped. I think it must be the air bags is there anyone that knows or knows someone that has had this problem. I went to a BMW dealer in France and he said that it would cost me a least £3000 the cars not worth that.
Cheers Dave

Sound like you have a split in the top seal of the rear airbags common problem on Merc S and CL.
To do it properly you would need new bags
You could rip all the air stuff off and fit normal coil overs
Or you could find the air leak use 2 parts glue and stick the split as a temp repair
Could be pump faulty or split in air line but normally on top of airbags.
Good Luck
Just drive it as a LOW rider and be
