Hi
have fitted a new boot seal and it seems to be sealing well but it seems to be a higher density rubber than original.
The profile seems right when compared to the old seal.
It has not compressed much after the boot has been closed for a day and I was wondering if anyone knows of any good products that may help.
The boot lid is currently adjusted so it sits too high when closed so as not to put unnecessary force on the hinges or lock because I don't want to bugger them up just for the sake of the seal compressing to where it should.
This product in Oz is supposed to help this sort of situation. http://www.rarespares.net.au/rarespares ... roduct=RM5
I would suspect that if the rubbers were made better the product would not be needed.
Any experience with this problem?

i had my seal on upside down
flat face upwards curved face stuck to car
took it off and put it back and its much better
it caused similar
my windscreen seal is a repro and its Bananarama! works but basically doesn't look or fit like the original
so i'd guess your seal is just not quite right
silicone grease may help
talc may help
but not both at the same time
normal grease definitly won't help

It's not the warmest time of year to be working with rubber,it might pay to warm the seal with a hot air gun and thump the trunk shut while it's still hot and softer.

That's a good idea.latil wrote:It's not the warmest time of year to be working with rubber,it might pay to warm the seal with a hot air gun and thump the trunk shut while it's still hot and softer.

I had just given up for now and was going to wait for the weather to warm up and adjust the boot over a few steps until it is where it should be.
