Retro ftting power steering on the cheap!?

OK, the new truck that I'm about to get (D200) is lacking power steering. Now, I'm not as big as Dunc or as strong as Clivey so, what about fitting power steering?

I did some research and found I need the following
ps box
pitman arm to match
ps pump and hoses
The all important brackets to mount it.
I'm also told that I need a longer input shaft for the lower aspect of the steering column.
Any thoughts?

Yes - don't start solving problems until you know have got one

You may be alright!!

Chances are you would need a sorter column, not a longer one....

Peter, no harm in doing homework. As you say, hopefully won't need it, but my wife certainly would. She,s been hankering for a pickup truck for ages.

I think you'll be surprised Miles, a huge wheel and a slow ratio box will make it fairly easy, even for a weedy girl

Depends on tyre size too, mine are 31 x 10.5 and it's a pig to turn!
I have a bus driver's knob.
On the steering wheel, helps with the slow ratio

I dont think it has huge wheels looking at the pic.

Bus drivers knobs are illegal/MOT failure

Pump the front tyres up to 40 psi and put some old iron behind the tailboard

Dave- i've been to the same MOT man for years and he's always been happy with my knob, though he is pretty short-sighted come MOT-time

30psi for me though, mine has Rv8 power so much lighter on the front anyhoo.

Scrap request, truck drives and steers fine with only full lock being tough.
