Hi Jules
I knew someone would see the potential in that car. If you live close to Rupert you can't be far from me, are you West End as in Chobham or Esher ?

Hi Mike. Tis a sweet little project. Thanks for advertising it for Jon.
Say Hi for us both if you speak to him.
Everything needs sorting, but the body's never been welded which is really good.
We're slowly getting through it
1 job opens up a can of worms, which opens another can and so on  but we're getting there :)

Yes mate, West End nr Bisley. 2 minutes from Gordon's School :thumbright:

After a lovely christmas break with the family, a trip down to the shed was in order on Wednesday for a continuation of the saga of recommissioning the '66.

We had a box of goodies arrive just before Santa got here. Makes a change for our Post Man to be early

Anyway, christmas came early for Rupert and I with a few new goodies for the '66 :woohoo:

New stainless fuel sender. New grommet for filler neck. New coil, HT leads, vacuum canister for dizzy, ignition switch aswell as some stuff for my '68. ;)

So, we decided to crack on with cleaning up & repainting bits for the column, and re-detailing the dash facia. Also made up a new gasket for the column base.

Just waiting on new clock faces to be sorted by a friend of Ru's, then we can refit it all.
Hope you like the piccies. Ru and I had a laugh anyway.
You don't need a sense of humour in this game, but it bloody helps!!

Merry Christmas :santa:

Had abit more progress on the '66 this weekend :) (and the '68 too ;) )

Last week I got some paint matched up for the dash and steering column.
I matched it from a section of the top column piece that shows the P R N D etc. which had been shaded from the light so hadn't faded over the years.

The colour used was a Fiat / Alfa colour, and I don't think I could have got the match any better. Believe it or not, the match was even better with the naked eye than in the photo :thumbright:

So, the dash and column got a new coat of paint this weekend.
Also, the cancel cam was renewed so at least the turn signals will switch themselves off. (Something I need to do on my '68 when I get the chance)

Also, sorted out the dizzy too. Ru stripped it out and gave it a good service. Also put in a new vacuum canister.

Unfortunately we never had any luck with the gauge faces with Ru's mate, so we cleaned them up as best we could, and thankfully they came out better than we had initially hoped, so the dash binacle is all back together now ready to be installed hopefully at the weekend.

Well, a few more jobs have been sorted now on the old girl :working:

After painting the dash we cleaned up the chrome trims that go round it's base and refitted them :)

We then set about the dash pad to see what we could do with that :?

Grime, dirt, grease, cob webbs and nicotine is the best way to describe that

Anyway after a good scrub for an hour or 2 we soon brought it back to life ;)

Once dried we re-fitted that too, and wow did it look good against the dash and trim 8-) (enjoy the before and after pics)

That colour match was better than we 1st thought.
The dash pad matches perfectly :D
We thought the pad might have faded over the years in the sun, so we weren't expecting a 100% match but thankfully not this one.
Makes us wonder if this was a "Garaged Car" most of it's life :-k

After that was time for the column re-assembly.

All was going well until we realised we needed to get the wiring threaded through, and the only way to do that was to take it all apart and start again as there was no room to feed the wires through and get them where they needed to go but hey, you live and learn

:D
