727 What bolt goes where.....

Post by Anonymous »

So i dropped the transmission pan which was as easy as I had been told... neatly collected the bolts in a container and then discovered that 4 of them were longer than the rest :o
Where do these 4 long bolts live because sods law dictates that they wont fit in the places i first try and i have a very limited time to get them all back in place, check for leaks, fix leaks and get to brum for the DoH premier.
So if anyone can tell me what goes where before hand would be much appreciated as none of the books i have checked seem to give me the answer!

Try the bolts in the holes before refitting the pan, or use a small screwdriver to identify the depth.

A 727 pan? All the bolts should be the same size I think?

Screwdriver is a good depth gauge - thanks for that. Good job someone is awake this morning!!
Dave I desperately hope you are wrong otherwise i have about 8 bolts that are too short!!! Although you may be right because nowhere have i read anything that told me to make notes what went where :?
Ah well will know for certain later.
Thanks for the very speedy responses :D

Some of the long bolts Paul were there because of the lokar kickdown linkage and the spacers it uses to mount it

Fool to agree with me Hugh! :D

Most of the bolts go right through but some (like under the bell housing) do not. Also some bolts might hit up against other bits such as the neutral safety/reverse light switch in the photo below.

Dave and Hugh you are indeed both right :)
Have to say big thanks to Dunc for getting me the filter and gasket at very short notice - very much appreciated and also big thanx to Laura (TeaBag) for helping.
Have to say am always very impressed with the way this club is quick to help others out - it is good to see :D .
