Hi.
I've got a friend who has a 1989 BMW 316i with a 1600 engine in it. He was having trouble with the engine so got a new one and has replaced it. Now it won't idle properly (sometimes revs high on idle) and is "kangarooing" when he tries to drive it. He has checked the clutch so doesn't think it's that. Could this be a timing problem? Advice much appreciated.
Help for a freind please

Airflow / MAP sensor.
It could very well be that if that is malfunctioning, it wont be telling the ECU what the true air/fuel mixture is and it is making the injection system do something it shouldnt. Trouble is Laura, your freind will only really be able to check them sensors out with a code reader / diagnostics pack.
Itcould be a number of things but the above are easy to correct and do produce the symptoms you describe when they go worng (which aint uncommon).
