70 Cuda in Dark Shadows movie

It is not unusual in the film-making process for the Director to request that the thing he wants the audience to focus on in particular be totally distinct from all around it.

Look at Cap chasing the Taxi in Captain America and you will see that (unusually) the hero taxi is the only brightly-coloured vehicle out there. Not even other taxis.

A red car passing the 'Cuda could have taken your attention away from it so what Rob says makes complete sense.

you could sit the titanic painted bright red with gold prizmatic writing on it saying look at me in the scene and no one in ther right mind is going to notice as that dirty lookin cow drives by,

if they do they had better go see the doctor and have there manhood checked out, cause if there is no blood there is no horn,

I've just watched the film and enjoyed it, not many cars in it though, considering how many days filming of the cars, maybe 30 seconds in all.

True, but when they are there, they really make a difference.

Even the Highway (hitchhike) scene looks real 70s America thanks to the cars (68 Bel-Air S'Wagon, for example).

And the 300H/C/L (sorry!) outside the Tavern as they go in.

And the emergency vehicles by the construction site.

The Maverick & Monte Carlo, that lovely pale blue Polara

Sarah's R'Runner

and more.

Well, you can add a red 63 Polara to the list of cars that DID make it into the film!

Ok it was only for a couple of seconds but that'll do me

It's not had the best reviews but I still wanted to see it at the cinema, to see how the set looked apart from seeing what cars had made it in.

So I went to see it last nite with my lad at the local cinema. Ready with pen & paper to note any cars i recognised, i was surprised that the story jumped to 1972 within 10 mins, and just as 'Victoria' drives into the town in the VW Camper, the Polara was visible in the background driving across the screen as the VW drives up the hill towards the camera.

Other UK-based Mopars I recognised were Geoff Mitchell's 65 Chrysler 300L & Chris Catchpole's 65/66 Chrysler New Yorker (4dr version of Geoff's), but it's hard to see everything in one 'sitting'.

Nigel/English68 - you say 'Sarah's R'Runner'? I didnt see that

Do you mean Sarah that writes for one of the Classic car mags? Green 69 RR? I didnt know that car was in it. Must look closer next time

Wife was at home sick Dunc, so I took the lad. And he's way past the cuddling age

As it turns out I didnt need a pen & paper to remember 3 cars, but I thought I'd be ready just in case

BTW - does anyone know when commercial vehicles were first fitted with a reverse gear beeper? You know, the warning beep that trucks etc make when theyre reversing, so people (except the deaf!) dont get run over

I'd have said more like sometime into the 80's? Tim Burton & Co seem to think they were around in the States in 72

Went to see the movie in LA whilst over there on holiday....spotted my (pale blue 66) Polara for about 1 second (literally), parked at the gas station in the background of the opening shot of the town and also very briefly spotted Chris Catchpole's 65 New Yorker. To be honest, these fleeting glimpses are pretty much what I anticipated, but the filming was good fun and well paid so no complaints from me

By the way, my Polara (and me) did make it into a documentary about the Mafia, made by the 'Yesterday' channel. We are in episode 1 of "Mafia's Greatest Hits" for about 10 secs or so. It was first aired last Friday but is repeated tonight at 9pm on Sky and Freeview. That was shot last autumn, after Dark Shadows...but after that all the TV and film work dried up

I remember someone saying they were after your truck Bob, but didnt hear or see any more so presumed nothing came of it.
It may well be in the film Bob, but it's difficult to see everything, especially if it's in the background, in one viewing

Yep it was the hitchhiker scene Rob, Had to wear 70's clothes (hope there are no pictures out there) one of the make up girls said the stuff I was wearing was almost in period, cheeky cow, drive up and down up and down still got me £200 so not complaining

I will check on Monday, but I hope to put up a full list soon. I've spotted a few mma cars so far (look out of the doors when the two guys visit the bar, for example). Like Rob says - you sure can't blink, or you'll miss them! They are there though and they do add to the creation of a very convincing environment. So thanks again to all of you who joined in, hung around and drove round and round!!
