Luton Hoo 'Classics in the Walled Garden' 4th July 2012

Post by RobTwin »

Tickets now available for this enjoyable little get together :)

Here's the bumpf from the organiser....

Hello all,

Classics in the Walled Garden

I’m pleased to advise you all that the 4th Classics in the Walled Garden will be held on Wednesday the 4th July. Last years event attracted around 650 cars and raised just under £3,000 for charity/good causes.

Classics in the Walled Garden is an evening picnic within and around the historic Walled Garden on the Luton Hoo Estate. As in recent years a part of the Walled Garden has been taken by a semi-permanent marquee. I shall be allocating spaces as entries are received, the first 150 entrants will be inside the Walled Garden, the next 150 in the area immediately outside the Walled Garden with the remaining places in the paddock field nearby. In 2011 I received 180 entries within 48 hours of sending this email, so please don’t delay.

The event is aimed at cars and motorcycles aged 20 years and older, with more modern classics accepted at my discretion. There will be parking available, outside the Walled Garden on payment, on the night for spectators and classics which haven’t booked.

This year I have decided not to book the band, they have been fantastic over the last 3 years but the current layout inside the Walled Garden meant they didn’t really have an audience. On the night we will have a licensed bar, some catering facilities, and this year will have tea and coffee available. I will update all entrants with an email nearer the time. I’m only sending paper entries for this event to those few entrants who attended last year and for whom I have no email addresses. So if you have friends without email who may be interested please pass this on to them.

Luton Hoo Walled Garden is set in a beautiful estate with entry from the New Mill End Road along a lovely tree lined drive. You can read some of its history at; www.lutonhooestate.co.uk. Please note there is NO entry to the Walled Garden from the main entrance to the hotel & golf club on the A1081. An access map can be found on the website. Access to the estate is gated and will be closed during the day. There will be NO ENTRY to the estate before 4pm.

Proceeds from Classics in the Walled Garden will be divided between The Walled Garden Project, and the Harpenden Trust, www.theharpendentrust.org.uk/
This year I will again be accepting payment of rally fees via Paypal for those of you who prefer to pay that way. Simply email me your completed form and make a payment to my email address. Please use Classics in the Walled Garden as the reference and include your registration number. I will provide the envelope and stamp to send your pass out. There will be an additional fee of 75p to cover Paypal fees, postage and envelopes.

I’m always in need marshalls so if you can spare a couple of hours of your time on the day please let me know. I’m tremendously indebted to all of you who have helped over the years as without that support these events simply couldn’t take place.

As in 2011 I’m planning on a tombola to raise extra funds, if you work for a company that might be interested in donating some product or merchandise please get in touch. On the website you can see a list of our sponsors.

Peter Madden

I copied the form to a Word file; hopefully attached here :?

Thanks Si :)

Stayed mostly dry - just a few drops of rain while we were there.
Ticket sales were already down on previous years (450 compared to 650 last year  ) so prob not just because of the weather; more like the 'economic climate'

Or maybe we werent the only ones with cars still in the garage

Saw Morgan & mate Lewis (gold 68 Camaro) leave just after we got there, around 6.45, so that left just the one other Mope..... you guessed it, another 68 Charger :)

Not seen the car before so Stu started chatting to the owner's mate who was with the car. He had only just got it on the road after a 5 year full rebuild/resto and as you can see, had decided on the 'pro-touring' stylee.

Matey said they might get the car along to the next Herts/Beds MMA meet, and to the Nats, so we may get another new member soon :thumbright:

Apart from that, the usual mix of old and not so old were there - just a few less than usual :(

Thats TomHills car isnt it ? He is already a member. Looks different to last time I saw it... Dont be alarmed ref the work at the back - brake pad popped out is all.

Lovely discs on it - big wilwood jobbies. Nice tidy engine bay too - bonnet hinges were lovely (seriously!)

That green Bedford truck is a mate of mine's, Alan Harding. Haven't seen it since he had it sign written. Thanks for posting the pics Rob.
