Silverstone

Post by sublimemike »

I've just gotta have a rant about this. Went today -second year running on practise day. Weather cack - about the same as last time- nothing much anyone can do about it as we know. Getting out the place.... same as last time - 2 and half hours. Cant believe the organisation is as bananaram bad as it is. To avoid a repeat of last year we left straight after the final F1 practise at 3.30. whole place grid locked. Spoke to an old boy Marshall on the traffic and he summed it up " we can get them in but we can't get 'em out" . Everything out the circuit was routed through the Dadford rd exit - 1 poxy b road. Stories were that because the car parks were flooded people parked on the main exit road to the A43- where were the marshalls to stop them?? Heard over the track radio they were "currently in a meeting to decide what to do about the traffic gridlock"!!! In the end the plod stepped in when Silverstone clearly couldn't deal with it. And I will say rarely good on on the plod - a few jam sandwiches and they got it slowly moving.

I went on a freebie ticket to Silverstone Racing Club - dunno what that would cost and this was practise day. I could have gone on race day but I am not a big F1 fan so let someone else have my ticket thinking it cant be the same as last year - it was.

Don't know how they managed to keep the event - suppose Donnigton is too run down. The day was only saved by the quality time I spent with my customer out of the work enviroment.

Oh and if you've got a camping ticket and your going tomorrow - don't bother- all the sites are full and the ones that aren't are flooded . Now I know why those that can use helicopters. End of rant.

This doesnt surprise me gents... Ive been a couple of times and went on a bike. I wouldnt even bother in a car... Waste of time! Great event though, atmosphere great so would say to anyone, go once at least, just to see it for yourself. I really enjoy the historic racing after practice sessions and I was lucky enough to be directly under the Eurofighter in the video attached. Was AWESOME!! :thumbright:

I can see your point RRunner, and I have to say that I generally put up with more than most when it comes to big events as they are great and usually worth the effort..... But...... This country is becoming crap at handling these events! They just want your money and thats it. F1, great sport, Silverstone, not fit for purpose. Ive paid a lot of money in the past to sit for three days on a concrete step, being charged 6 quid for a Bananarama!, eating it in crap facilities while the 'man' who doesnt want to do anything but get sozzled, for free, in a cosy box overlooking the pits etc, lines the likes of Ecclestones pockets! The real fans get used. They cant even put a fraction of the millions they make back into tarmacing, better facilities etc. Its embarassing.... As is Donnington. I booked tickets for the Red bull air races a few years ago at Longleat. What a joke! Paid a fortune (taken from my sccount almost instantly), got kids up early, all excited.... We got stuck in the worlds biggest traffic jam, got about 7 miles from the entrance and the Police turned us back. A month later I got a refund. Another day of my life I wont get back!

My daughter has a little job at a dance school, £15 a day in hols and she grafts for it. Wants a ticket to see Justin Bieber, £65!!!!! It makes my blood boil.... It really does! The Eagles... £125 a ticket and you cant get parked.. Or if you do, its another £15, and £5 for a warm beer.... Its all a rip off and us mugs continue to support it, instead of being whinning poms a bit more often!!!

Tell you what I do now... Local ice hockey, fantastic fun, a fiver, £2 a pint and I get parked, for free, every time. Boardmasters surfing in cornwall, world class action... Free, just take a picnic. £5 dads n lads tickets at footie, great fun.... The list goes on. I work just as hard as the next man for my money and Im Bananarama! if im going to throw it, at £200 a time, blindly at Bernie and his cronies, unless the put some back in and treat the fans with the respect they deserve! I would stick to the TT everytime if I had a bike still, great value if you dont go mad, and a world class sport with organisers and riders who still care about putting on a good event! Just dont get me onto the supply and demand ethics of the steam packet company!

Thats my rant done....

Cheers Steve

Im honoured to be ranked with the ranters boys and I definately dont include the nats... Works out good value if you camp etc.... Ive seen rants on here about the Main Event aswell.... I think thats good value cos they have to kick me out.... Pits easily accessable, courteous stewards and friendly racers etc etc.... It just the large boys with large pockets and contempt for us normal folks that grips my Bananarama!!

Dont get me on to bankers will you!! :thumbright:

What i do not understand is why do you need to go in a Car? i have been to plenty of events over the Years and never had a problem getting in our out.

But i am prepared to walk a few miles ;) i will be going to the Open Golf for the practice day on the Wednesday. But i will get the Train to Blackpool and then Walk the rest.no need to be stuck in traffic.

Can you not do the same in F1? must be a train station near by?

For what its worth i do not like F1 and i would not go even if it was free.
